Gracia hails Malaga ambition

Javi Gracia insists Malaga have earned the right to be ambitious following their 3-2 victory over Getafe in La Liga on Saturday.

Goals from Juanmi, Sergi Darder and Ricardo Horta made it back-to-back wins for the seventh-placed Andalucians, who opened up a considerable nine-point lead on Espanyol, leaving their Coach struggling for superlatives.

"I’m very happy with the result. It makes me very pleased and proud of what we’ve achieved,” he was quoted as saying by Malaga’s official website.

“It was a pretty good first half from us, with more possession and territorial domination and sometimes [close] to [scoring] another goal.

“In the second we didn’t do so well. Our opponents played better and better, so much to get in another equal and gradually have continued to grow.

“This victory is a step, an important step, forward. Avoiding relegation helps us remain calm and enjoy this final stretch of the season.

“Now we must see how the team evolve. Overall, it’s a favourable situation for the growth of the team.

“We must be careful, maintain our pace from game to game and see where we can go.

“The team will remain ambitious and will continue to compete for every point and in every game to try to finish as high as possible.

“I don’t want to say how far the team should go because our objective [of staying up] has already been reached.

“This team can go further and improve on their records of the first round. [We haven’t repeated our streak of] five straight wins, but we intend to try.”
