Everton's Romelu Lukaku will become one of the world's best strikers, says his manager Roberto Martinez.

The £28m Belgium forward, 21, had a slow start to the season but has now scored 18 goals in 46 appearances.

"We've all been through that type of season," Martinez said ahead of Sunday's visit of Manchester United.

"He is quite responsible and sometimes takes a critical view of himself but I think that's what will make him one of the best strikers in world football."

Lukaku became Everton's record signing last July when he joined from Chelsea.

He spent the 2013-14 season on loan at Goodison Park, scoring 15 league goals and helping the Toffees qualify for the Europa League.

They are currently 12th in the Premier League.

Martinez added: "As a team we have been tested this season and individually there has been a point where you have to push yourself through, learn from the experience and become a proper performer for the team.

"Now everyone is ready to be on the pitch and help the team and Romelu's form since January has been really strong."
