Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola says the Blues will be deserved winners of the Premier League and that they have played good football this season, regardless of their 'boring' tag.

Jose Mourinho's men are clear at the top of the table and look nailed on to win a fourth championship in 10 years.

But the Blues were booed and criticised at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, heckled after a 0-0 draw with Arsenal with a "boring, boring Chelsea" chant.

It is something which Mourinho and his players vehemently disagree with, while skipper John Terry has also hit back, stating that titles can't be won simply with "tippy-tappy football".

Zola, who spent seven years at Stamford Bridge (1996-2003), says that they are deserving of more respect, having "dominated" this term.

"I think it’s been a strong Chelsea this season," declared Zola, in an interview with beIN Sports.

"I thought at the beginning of the season they played some very good football, very exciting with a lot of goals. It's not the main thing in Mourinho’s game but this year they started very well playing good football and they did it for the majority of the season.

"I think towards the end of the season they couldn't play to the same standard but they've still come up with good results and if they win the title it would be deserved.

Boring Chelsea:Stats show Jose Mourinho's league leaders are anything but

"Without doubt (they’re worthy champions). In this country, very rarely are you champions without deserving it so I believe Chelsea has completely deserved and dominated it.

"People have criticized the way Chelsea have won games in this last part of the season but I thought at the beginning of the season they were playing quality football and if you look at the stats, they scored a lot of goals which as I said before is not the main quality of the manager.

"The first part of the season they were without doubt the best team and unfortunately couldn't keep up that standard towards the end but it’s fair to say the Premier League is difficult to play a high standard throughout the season."

Mourinho's Blues have already landed the League Cup, beating London rivals Tottenham at Wembley in March, while the Portuguese continued his hoodoo over Arsene Wenger in Sunday's stalemate.

Zola is of the belief that those criticising the prospective double winners are simply the ones who are losing at their expense.

"If you play well and you don’t win, like Arsenal has done for a long time, playing really well, then the critics say it's no good because you’re not winning," added Zola.

"When you’re winning and not playing well then the critics still criticize you! I think we have to be balanced.

"I want to see Chelsea winning obviously and Chelsea supporters enjoying it. That’s the most important thing. The ones that are probably criticizing very much are the ones that are losing! There’s always something you can do better.

"I’m sure Chelsea can improve but as I’ve said before, Chelsea supporters cannot complain. "
