Germany international did not train with José Mourinho’s side
Adnan Januzaj and Paddy McNair also among absentees from Carrington

Bastian Schweinsteiger’s ill-fated spell at Manchester United may be drawing to a close after the Germany international was the notable absentee from first-team training on Thursday.

The 31-year-old was limited to 13 Premier League appearances for United last season when struggling with injuries. José Mourinho is believed to have deemed the former Bayern Munich favourite surplus to his requirements and the midfielder’s Old Trafford future looks increasingly bleak having missed training at Carrington.

Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with Schweinsteiger, who has been on honeymoon since featuring at the European Championship with Germany.

As well as Schweinsteiger, Adnan Januzaj, Paddy McNair, Andreas Pereira, Axel Tuanzebe and Will Keane were also absent. Their futures at Old Trafford are in doubt along with Tyler Blackett and the injured pair of Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.
