Martin Skrtel says being booed by Manchester United fans during Fenerbahce’s clash with the Premier League side was a fantastic feeling as a former Liverpool player.

United lost to a Fenerbahce that included Skrtel among its ranks this season in the Europa League after the centre-back moved to the Turkish giants last summer.

Skrtel spent eight years at Anfield and although he was sometimes the villain to Liverpool supporters, he says getting such a terrible reception from United fans was something to cherish.

‘Manchester United fans don’t like me because I was a success at Liverpool,’ said Skrtel.

‘I was part of the team that left Old Trafford with a win on a few occasions and considering the reception I got I must have done well at Liverpool.

‘I loved the reaction, as a player who used to play for Liverpool it is normal to get booed at Old Trafford.’

The Slovakia international received a dreadful reception at Old Trafford at the away fixture where his side were thumped 4-1.

But he gained immediate revenge over the Red Devils when he helped his team beat them 2-1 at their ground in the reverse fixture in November.
