Ragnar Klavan has warned Liverpool’s title rivals that the best is yet to come from him and the Reds’ defence.

Liverpool have been let down by their defenders and goalkeeper at times this season with the most recent draw with Sunderland earning the point thanks to two penalties conceded by the Reds.

Klavan gave away one of those penalties, but the centre-back has insisted he is getting better with every passing game.

‘I’m never satisfied with my performance – I always want more,’ Klavan told the club website.

‘That has always been the way for me throughout my career, something that keeps pushing me forward.

‘After every game, you find a lot of things you can improve. You take those things into the next week’s training and start working on them.

‘It’s nice to always move forward.

‘There is a little bit more allowed in this league from the referees than I’m used to.

‘This is something that takes a little bit of time, that as a central defender you are allowed a little bit more.

‘That’s the style of English football. Slowly, I’m getting there.’

Liverpool’s dropped points at Sunderland leave them five points behind Chelsea, who were beaten for the first time in 13 games by Tottenham on Wednesday night.

The Reds sit second and have had to do without their first choice centre-back, Joel Matip during a busy festive period.

Matip is set to return in the next few games and Klavan says his comeback will add to his and Liverpool’s performances at the back.

‘That competition is something nice and helps us all to get better,’ said Klavan.

‘And it helps the team, especially, because it is a team performance and we always want to have the best team out.

‘This is how you get the best result.

‘It’s positive and good, everybody has to be on their toes and keep on working. Nobody can slouch back and say they have made it.’
