Cristiano Ronaldo has a reputation for being selfish and egocentric, but the Real Madrid star showed he’s anything but here with this show of appreciation for team-mate James Rodriguez.

The Portugal international was not present on the pitch for his club as they beat Sevilla 3-0 in the Copa del Rey this week, but he watched on and showed his support, particularly to one of his more troubled colleagues.

Rodriguez has been recently linked with a move away from Real Madrid after struggling for first-team football, but fully took his chance on Wednesday night with two goals.

Clearly not doing as well as he’d hoped when he made the big-money move from Monaco to Madrid in 2014, Rodriguez will feel he made his point to manager Zinedine Zidane with this display.

And Ronaldo showed his gentler side as he specifically sought out the Colombian for a hug in the tunnel just before the second half.

The 31-year-old was there to greet and high-five the other Real players as well, but made a special gesture towards Rodriguez after a performance he’ll hope is the start of a career comeback at the Bernabeu.
