Eliaquim Mangala scored a rare goal as Valencia beat Leganes 1-0 in La Liga on Tuesday night.

Mangala struck from close range after his initial header had been repelled to send Valencia 12th, a point and a place above Las Palmas.

The on-loan Manchester City defender last scored a club goal for Porto in 2013-14.

Leganes finished with 10 men at Estadio de Mestalla as Alberto was sent off.

Elsewhere, Real Betis eased their relegation fears with a 2-1 win at Malaga.

Pablo Fornals gave Malaga a half-time lead, but Jonas Martin equalised three minutes into the second half.

Juanmi gave the hosts the lead and was sent off for a second bookable offence at 1-1, after Gonzalo Escalante had equalised.

Eibar had been reduced to 10 men prior to half-time as Florian Lejeune received a second yellow card.

A Carlos Vela penalty restored the hosts' advantage, but Leon had the final say as Eibar equalised in the third minute of stoppage time.
