Liverpool host Arsenal on Saturday in a crucial match in the race for Champions League qualification.

The Reds were heavily criticised for their performance in the 3-1 loss to Leicester City on Monday and Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his players can turn around a run of form that has seen them lose six games since the turn of the year.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the Liverpool boss issued fitness updates on three key players – Jordan Henderson, Daniel Sturridge and Dejan Lovren.

‘It’s too soon for Jordan, for sure,’ Klopp said of his captain.

Henderson took a blow to his foot in training earlier this week, although a scan allayed fears that it was a broken metatarsal.

‘Sturridge is not training,’ Klopp added.

‘He was ill, really ill. Now he has a strain his hip muscle. It happened in a rehab session.

‘It’s very small but it keeps him out of normal training for another week or so. He can train but he won’t be in team training.’

Losing Henderson and Sturridge for such a big game is undoubtedly a blow, but Lovren’s involvement is perhaps the most crucial of all three.

Liverpool’s defence – with midfielder Lucas Leiva at its heart – looked particularly shaky against the Foxes.

Lovren is Klopp’s preferred partner alongside Joel Matip but it’s unclear if he will be fit to play on Saturday evening after only just returning to training.
