Arsenal have sent a classy message to former star Lukas Podolski as he prepares for an emotional 130th and final cap for Germany against England tonight.

The 31-year-old, now with Galatasaray and set for a summer move to Japanese side Vissel Kobe, spent two and a half seasons with the Gunners between 2012/13 and 2014/15, and certainly made an impression in his short time in north London.

Known for being a bubbly character in the dressing room as well as a fan-favourite for his committed performances and occasional left-footed wondergoal, Podolski is clearly still remembered warmly at Arsenal.

Now set for an emotional farewell game for Germany, Podolski has received a special congratulatory tweet and video compilation from his old club.

31 goals

The former Bayern Munich forward will retire from international football after tonight’s friendly against England, and will do so as Germany’s third-most capped player and third highest goalscorer.

Podolski scored against England in a notable 4-1 win for Germany at the 2010 World Cup, and though he might do further damage to the Three Lions today, he’ll still go down as a bit of a hero on some parts of these shores at least.
