Arsenal would’ve won the Premier League title by now if they’d shown ambition in the transfer market to bring in the likes of Luis Suarez or Karim Benzema, says Paul Merson.
The former Gunners star says that an arrogance has crept into the way the club do things, and that more needs to be done to deliver success on the field.
Arsenal notably tried to sign Suarez from rivals Liverpool in the summer of 2013, but ended up making a mess of the deal by bidding just £1 over his release clause.
Merson says Arsene Wenger should have paid the Uruguayan’s market value, as a world class forward like him would surely have delivered the title to the Emirates Stadium at long last.
‘When Benzema had a chance to come in and he says, “What do I need Benzema for, I’ve got (Olivier) Giroud?” Don’t say that, just put in a bid,’ Merson told Newsweek.

‘You know, (they offered Liverpool) £40m-and-a-pound for Suarez. Bid £60m. Arsenal would have won the league by now.’
