Jermain Defoe waited ‘patiently’ by the tunnel for Marcus Rashford to walk off the pitch after Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Sunderland.

The Sunderland striker was on the wrong end of the drubbing on a miserable Sunday afternoon for the relegation-battlers.

Sebastian Larsson was sent off shortly after United went in front and Rashford rounded off the victory with an excellent finish in the final minute of normal time.

The strike was Rashford’s first Premier League goal since September as the youngster has struggled to replicate the form that made him into an instant star last season.

Regardless of his current form, Rashford is still considered one of the brightest prospects in English football and a future England regular.

Defoe has been a goalscorer for much of his career for club and country and waited by the tunnel as Rashford lapped up the applause from the United away supporters after the game.

The England international then handed his shirt to Defoe in a quality sign of recognition for the youngster with the United star handing the Sunderland talisman his jersey.
