Ander Herrera’s importance to Manchester United can no longer be denied. The Spaniard has been reinvented by Jose Mourinho this season and put in another performance worthy of N’Golo Kante against Celta Vigo tonight.

According to stats from Squawka, no player on the pitch made more tackles than the four by Herrera on the night, which contributed to a vitally important win in the Europa League semi-final first leg.

While Kante’s immense midfield performances at Chelsea earned him the PFA Player of the Year prize last month, Herrera’s similar performances have not gained as much widespread attention.

The 27-year-old was his usual hard-working self this evening, protecting United’s defence and covering every blade of grass to help keep Celta at bay.

As well as his four tackles on the night, Herrera showed once again that he has become a real leader for United in everything that he does.

The former Athletic Bilbao man was assured in possession and played with great passion for his club to deliver a great result in their quest for Champions League football.
