Scott Sinclair named SPFA player of the year as Celtic win four awards

Scott Sinclair led a clean sweep of awards for Celtic as he was named PFA Scotland's player of the year.

Sinclair, 28, has scored 25 goals in his debut season as the Scottish champions chase a domestic treble.

He beat team-mates Moussa Dembele and Stuart Armstrong, as well as Aberdeen's Jonny Hayes, to the award, which was voted for by his fellow professionals.

Celtic's Kieran Tierney was voted young player of the year, while boss Brendan Rodgers was named manager of the year.

The former Liverpool boss, who won the League Managers Association prize in 2014, has not lost a domestic game since arriving in Scotland.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here," Rodgers said. "I have obviously been fortunate to have really good experiences and I was fortunate enough to win a similar award down in the Premier League in England, and that was very satisfying.

"And likewise here. It's a prestigious award and you only need to look at the people who have won it before me and the great history of Scottish coaches. I received it with great pride."

Parkhead striker Dembele made it four awards on the night for the club when his third goal in the 5-2 win over St Johnstone in February was voted goal of the season.

Hibernian's John McGinn claimed the Championship player of the year award after the Scotland midfielder helped the Easter Road side win promotion and reach the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

Livingston's Liam Buchanan won the League One player of the year award, with Shane Sutherland of Elgin City taking the League Two award.

The Scotland women's national team also won a special merit award after reaching this summer's European Championships.

    A year ago Sinclair, Armstrong, Brown and Boyata had huge question marks over their futures. Brendan Rodgers and his team have transformed these players.

    Yes the competition for Celtic isn't as strong as it once was, but it's plain to see that every player in the Celtic squad has improved 100pc, so congratulations.

    @10 'av you seen the Icelandic league ya moosh .

    Sinclair is a good player, being in and around that Villa rabble would have stalled anyones career.. He's a British international and the Celtic fans still love him...nice.

    @5 "a failure of a prem manager" that would have been a legend if it wasn't for a so called EPL legend slipping and giving the league away, come on wise up. And as far as Sinclair goes it takes the right manager to get the best out of a player, confidence breeds confidence and that sums it up

    The current CFC Team would struggle in the EPL most CFC Fans realise this.However once on the gravy train that is the EPL they would be able to attract the calibre of player that they currently cant.They have a support probably only behind Real and Man U on the world stage.If they were in the EPL I have no doubt they would be challenging within 5 years.You an only beat what is put in front of you.

    People on here are always giving it yaldi on the competitive issue since EPL is the most difficult and competitive league in the world.... 129 years of History, 24 different winners. Even more interesting since it became PL in 92, we are looking at 6. Taking away BB and Leic flukes leave you with 4. City and Chelsea only getting wins due to massive foreign investment. Vaunted league indeed.

    Brilliant achievement so far this season, individually but also collectively. Let's hope we can push on and make it a treble. As for all the EPL fans that feel the need to belittle Celtic... get a grip. Yeah we know the league is no great shakes but half of you can only dream of supporting a club with fans as passionate as Celtics! A real football club. Here's to more champions league nights.

    England don't have a league, haven't had one for a very long time. The current money grabbing badge kissers only replaced Scots, Irish and Welsh. The last all English side to take the field in the premier was 1999 and the last English coach to win the league was 1992...and some on here are slagging Celtic /Scotland???...do me a favour moosh.

    this goes to show that celtic are the biggest club in scotland and they not only won the league and are going to be unbeaten this season which goes to show what a team they are. they are going clearn up everything in scotland which by the looks off things will keep happening for a few more years also. hats off to celtic now make 10 in a row

    Blah blah blah. Sky TV and foreign billionaires prop your English and Welsh Premier League up! Your national team got rolled over by Iceland. On an equal financial footing, Celtic would turn you all over. In the meantime, our league is poor, I agree. We can only beat what is put in front of us. Not long ago, we beat Barcelona at home. Don't recall a lot a lip then.

    Notice that people who slag Celtic off , don't often say what team they are behind !

    Anyway I really hope all 4 of them stay at Celtic.
    Would be nice if Aberdeen and Rangers , Hearts , Hibs.....etc give us ( Celtic ) a go next season.

    Sorry to go off topic but there were other winners in the SPFA awards and congratulations to Shane Sutherland on receiving the League Two award.After a great start for him personally, he had a serious injury and there is no doubt that our form went downhill after that. It is a measure of how well he did that his peers voted for him based on his early form and many thanks to them as well.
