Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Naby Keita with RB Leipzig closing in on the signing of Konrad Laimer, according to reports in Germany.

Keita has been linked with a £50 million move to Anfield this summer with Liverpool considering smashing their transfer record to sign the midfielder.

RB Leipzig have insisted Keita is not for sale at any price and that the club will not be parting with any of their top players.

The German side are looking to bring in reinforcements into their squad and Kicker claim they are on the verge of completing a deal for RB Salzburg player, Laimer.

Keita arrived from RB Leipzig’s sister club last summer and it looks as though Laimer will be the latest player to cross the divide.

Laimer is expected to sign a four-year deal with RB Salzburg picking up around £7 million from the sale.

The switch could free up Keita to leave the club and should encourage Liverpool to swoop for his services.

Laimer plays in central midfield, as does Keita sparking suggestions it could be a like for like swap.

Liverpool have been tipped for a big summer of spending as they prepare for a return to the Champions League next season.

The Reds have yet to discover who they will face in the qualifying round, but Liverpool should get a more favourable tie as a seeded side in the draw.
