Jose Mourinho has confided in his Manchester United staff that the Antoine Griezmann move to the club is not set in stone, according to reports.

Griezmann is at the centre of the biggest transfer saga this summer with Atletico Madrid seemingly in a battle to keep the attacker at the club.

United are believed to be the frontrunners for his signature and reportedly agreed personal terms with the goalscorer in January.

The Independent claim United are convinced the potentially world-record signing will be finalised by the end of June.

However, Mourinho is not as confident and has told his staff that there is still a huge amount to do to seal the deal.

Griezmann has swayed back and forth on his commitment to Atletico by claiming there was a 60 per cent chance of him joining United and then dismissing reports of moving to England days later.

Atletico are ready to double Griezmann’s wages after the transfer storm he has cooked up in recent weeks.

Griezmann currently earns £6 million a year and Atletico are open to doubling those wages in a contract worth £12 million a year.

The saga continues as Atletico wait to find out if their appeal on a Fifa one-year transfer ban has been successful.

A decision is expected on Thursday and could affect Griezmann’s and Atletico’s stance.

The Atletico hierarchy are still holding on to the hope that Griezmann is merely angling for pay raise.

United will have to activate a £100 million release clause in the Frenchman’s contract to ensure his signature.

Griezmann is currently on international duty with France with no announcement expected until after his season comes to a close.
