Manchester United starlet Angel Gomes has received a surprise message of support from Ronaldinho.

The 16-year-old made history last month when he became United’s youngest ever winner of the Jimmy Murphy Youth Team Player award following his sublime performances this season.

Gomes’ stock rose even further after United’s end-of-season awards as he was then handed his senior debut by Jose Mourinho in the final game of the season against Crystal Palace.

And now the midfielder has received the backing of the former Barcelona and Brazil forward, who was named the World Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005.

‘Hi Angel, Ronaldinho speaking, sending you good luck and a hug,’ said the 37-year-old.

‘All the best, I am following your progress and I wish you all the happiness in the world. Go for it. I will meet you soon.’
