Manchester United’s chances of signing Gareth Bale this summer will be increased if Zinedine Zidane gives Real Madrid the green light to sign Kylian Mbappe, according to reports.

Marca claims that Zidane is aware that one of his star players must be sold in order to accommodate the 18-year-old Monaco forward, and with Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Isco all having cemented their status, Bale will be the one to make way.

Zidane remains in talks with Madrid president Florentino Perez over a move for Mbappe but has not yet made a final decision over the France international.

Zidane is aware that Bale’s playing time would be reduced should Mbappe arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, while the Madrid manager is also wary of hampering Marco Asensio’s development by approving another high-profile signing.

United have a long-standing interest in Bale but have been made aware that any deal for the 27-year-old will cost at least £100 million.

Earlier this month, reports claimed that the Wales international would be open to linking up with Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

But when asked if he was happy to stay at Real Madrid after the Champions League final, Bale said: ‘Yeah, I have signed a long term contract at Madrid,” he said when asked if he was happy at Madrid.

‘My family is happy and I am happy so, yeah, we will continue what we are doing.

‘As I have said, I am happy here at Madrid. We are winning trophies and I am happy.’
