Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane insists it was a point gained after the striker scored a last-gasp equaliser in a 2-2 draw against Scotland.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain put Gareth Southgate’s men ahead midway through the second half but the Three Lions were behind in injury time after Leigh Griffiths hit two exquisite free-kicks in the dying stages.

Kane, 23, was captaining England for the first time in the absence of Wayne Rooney and it looked like his audition would end in defeat after a poor display from the Three Lions.

However, the forward struck in injury time to salvage a point and Kane was delighted that his ‘special’ day didn’t end in defeat.

‘It is a special day. To be 2-1 down in stoppage time, to get that goal is special’ Kane told ITV.

‘I was trying to get a good contact on it and side-footed into the net.

‘You have to expect the unexpected and we were 2-1 down from nowhere but we found another gear.

‘It is a good point away from home. Scotland is no easy place to come.’
