The number has been vacant since Christian Benteke left to join Crystal Palace last season.

Salah has worn No.11 at Roma as he scored an impressive 19 goals last campaign as well providing 15 assists.

Liverpool’s record signing is Andy Carroll, who coincidentally wore the No.9 shirt after completing a £35million move from Newcastle.

Carroll failed to make an impression at Anfield and was shipped off to West Ham two years later.

Salah will now take over the pressure of being Liverpool’s most expensive player in their history.

The 25-year-old came close to joining Liverpool in 2014 with the Reds in advanced talks to bring the then Basel player to the club.

But, Chelsea swooped in at a late stage and Salah ended up at Stamford Bridge.

The No.9 shirt at Liverpool has been worn by some incredible players with Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler and Fernando Torres all donning the shirt as a Red.
