Arsenal are set to offer Aaron Ramsey a new contract with Arsene Wenger determined for the Welshman to commit his long-term future to the club.

The Gunners are in an unfavourable position in which a number of first-team players may leave for free next summer – Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere have all entered the final years of their current deals.

But the club are keen to prevent a repeat of the uncertainly that is brewing at the Emirates this summer and hope Ramsey is the first of a string of players to pen new contracts.

While Arsenal are still working on deals for influential duo Sanchez and Ozil, the Daily Mail say Ramsey, who is contracted until 2019, will be approached regarding a lucrative extension.

The Wales midfielder, who scored the winner in the FA Cup final against Chelsea, currently earns around £100,000-a-week but is set to sign a new contract more in line with top earners Sanchez and Ozil.

The north London outfit are also keen to open talks with attackers Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott, with the pair also set to be out of contract in 2019.
