Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink insists Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has all the attributes to play for Premier League champions Chelsea.

Antonio Conte is said to be keeping tabs on the prolific Poland international, who has netted 77 goals in 96 league games for the German club since 2014.

The Blues are in the market for attacking reinforcements with Diego Costa seemingly set to leave Stamford Bridge – Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata have been linked with moves to west London.

Lewandowski has also emerged as a target for Chelsea and Hasselbaink understands why his former club would want to land his signature.

‘I like that Chelsea are looking at him because next year it is going to be a little bit different [than last season],’ the ex-Netherlands forward told ITV.

‘They won’t be able to play so much on the counter attack – they will play a lot in the final third of the opposition.

‘So they need a striker who is good in the air and who can hold the ball in small places.

‘That’s what Lewandowski has been doing at Bayern so he’s used to that.

‘He’s comfortable getting the ball with his back to the goal and knows where the goal is. I understand [why they are interested].’

Despite Lewandowski also attracting interest from Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, Bayern have played down the recent rumours and warned clubs that they may face legal action if they approach the 28-year-old this summer.

‘Robert Lewandowski has a contract with FC Bayern, which he recently extended to 2021,’ an official club statement read.

‘Bayern are not thinking about any move for Lewandowski. There are no talks with other clubs, and there will not be.

‘If other clubs negotiate with a player who still has a long-term contract, they risk punishment from FIFA.

‘The player’s agent also assured us that he did not hold talks with any other club.’
