Arsenal’s new signing Alexandre Lacazette admits he is flattered to have been compared with legendary Gunners striker Ian Wright after his summer transfer from Lyon.

The France international scored at a prolific rate for his former club before a record-breaking £52million move to Arsenal this summer, and is already being talked about in the same vain as one of the club’s best-ever players.

Wright scored 185 goals during his time at Arsenal, and sits second behind Thierry Henry in the north Londonders’ all-time leading scorers charts.

Lacazette would do well to come close to that, but admits he would relish being regarded by Arsenal’s fans in the same way that Wright continues to be to this day.

‘I know about Ian Wright very well,’ Lacazette told Arsenal.com. ‘I’ve never seen him play but if I am compared to him that is great.

‘If I have a career where fans think of me like they do about Ian Wright then I’ll be very happy.

‘I have arrived at a very special club, a very good club who are very organised,” added Lacazette.

‘With the other players in the team, there are very high levels so it is a great opportunity for me to improve.’

Lacazette, 26, scored 129 goals in 275 games for previous club Lyon.
