Gylfi Sigurdsson: Swansea 'won't be bullied' over wanted player

Swansea City's owners say they will "not be bullied" into selling midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson below their £50m asking price.
Swansea have reportedly rejected £40m bids from Everton and Leicester.
American owners Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien said: "We will not be bullied or forced into a decision until a club meets our valuation of the player."
Sigurdsson, who has three years left on his contract, did not travel to the US for the Swans' pre-season tour.
Kaplan and Levien also warned any clubs interested in Sigurdsson against believing they have a deal with him.
"Any such agreement would obviously be in contravention of Premier League legislation," they added.
Both owners also hope the player will rejoin his team-mates in their pre-season preparations.
"We have the ultimate respect for Gylfi as a person and a player and we are optimistic that he will reconsider his decision and join his team-mates," said the American businessmen.
Sigurdsson's absence from the trip to America was announced on Thursday.
"Gylfi did not feel in the right frame of mind to travel due to the current uncertainty over his future," said the Swans on Twitter.
Manager Paul Clement has said the "business side to football" meant the club might have to sell him.
"I've made it very clear I want him to stay here," he added.
"He's one of our most valuable players. He showed that last season with his goals and his assists, and he was instrumental in us maintaining our Premier League status."

If Kyle Walker goes for £55m, then Siggy is worth £70m
Football has lost the plot
The question the staff need to ask is would relegation cost them more than 50 million?

WELL SAID YANKS !!!!!!!!
taking millions from the game,
Swansea don't want to sell , their doing everything possible to keep hold of Gylfi, unlike the agent ??!!....DOES HE CARE ABOUT EVERTON OR SWANSEA OR ZIGGY ???
That's all he,s concerned about is his commission....Dog with a bone comes to mind,
I don't blame Swansea for keeping him, he is a player that a mid table team would love to have and they have him on a long contract. Even £50m might not shift him
"And people say Pogba is overpriced"
---
Siggy (27) £45M - proven calibre:
PL 16/17 9 goals 13 assists; 15/16 11 goals 3 assists ; 14/15 7 goals 10 assists
5th highest assists in last 3 years
Pogba (24) £93M - unproven:
PL 16/17 5 goals 4 assists
Yeah, ok then...
@19 yes he wasn't great at Tottenham, but sometimes a move just doesn't work out for whatever reason I wouldn't necessarily say that automatically means he won't succeed at Everton.
Swansea Town were founder members of the new Third Division of The Football League in 1920 .
They were invited to join by the Football league as there were not enough English Clubs to fill it.
They have been in the Football League for nearly 100 years and deserve their PL status. By your logic the PL should only have English teams and English players. Sound a bit racist to me.
Now were selling our best players again to line pockets of the greedy yanks. Buying nobody again. Jenkins when are you going to start buying players with all the transfer money??
At present the transfer cash inflation is ...akin to the germans taking home their marks in wheelbarrows !!
Seems pointless when Euro clubs are hiking up fees for English " muggins "
so the money received is not even going to cover the £ of replacing the asset sold off.
Madness
I think the management is bright enough to realise that to stay in the PL they need top notch players.
If you sell your best just for the cash you will eventually go down. That's how ruthless this league has become.
Well done Swansea and I look forward to seeing you play for years to come.
Can you please keep quiet until you have something interesting to say? Of course they are a (relatively) small club for the PL, and that makes it difficult for them to attract or afford the best players, but the fact that despite that they have made it to - and stayed in - the PL is an outstanding achievement and shows what immense ambition they have.
The bubble has to burst soon, attendances dwindling at matches, people genuinely losing interest in the farce that football has become.
It's being run by the few for the few nowadays, lost it's roots I'm afraid!!!!
if i had a choice of Sigurdsson,Walker or Dier on value for money
no doubt that sigurdsson is class from the other 2 average hype players and gladly pay it ,past 3 seasons sigurdsson is top 3 midfielder in assits, free kicks, goals OPTA FACT
