Joe Hart: Manchester City keeper joins West Ham on loan

Goalkeeper Joe Hart spent last season on loan at Torino, making 36 appearances for the Italian club.

Manchester City and England goalkeeper Joe Hart has completed a season-long loan move to West Ham.

Hart had been told he could find another club by City boss Pep Guardiola after spending last season at Torino.

The 30-year-old made it clear to City his preference was to join West Ham, and they facilitated that.

There is no option to buy in the deal and, should West Ham want Hart next summer, they will have to bid for him like any other club.

City have agreed to fund part of Hart's wages but West Ham are also paying a loan fee, believed to be £4.5m.

Hart, whose City contract is not due to expire until 2019, is expected to join West Ham's squad on their pre-season tour of Austria.

"It's important for me to play football, and to get the opportunity to come here and play is absolutely awesome," he said.

Hart won the Premier League twice with Manchester City, and has been capped 71 times by England, but fell out of favour after Pep Guardiola took over as manager.

Although he will not play against City in the league, Hart could face his parent club as soon as 4 August in a pre-season friendly match in Iceland.

West Ham's season starts against Manchester United at Old Trafford nine days later.

    I think Joe Hart is a decent keeper but not world class like De Gea or Neuer hence why his level is Torino/West Ham.

    I thought City were wrong initially when they got rid of him but now I'm not so sure.

    Hart's place as England number 1 is surely under threat from the likes of Butland, Forster, Heaton and even Pickford...

    @davidinfrance Giadiola isn't being selfish - Joe Hart doesn't want to go and lose his City wages. If no one is willing to take Hart on for the same wages and he refuses to quit his contract, then they have to do a loan deal where the other club pays part of the wage and City cover the rest. I'm sure guadiola would love to just release him.

    When you where in school and you picked sides and the last kid was the useless one that no one wanted.......west ham would sign that player.

    Not sure why Hart gets so much stick, even from City fans. Look what he has achieved over the years, joint top golden glove winner in the PL and 2x PL titles in recent years, plus progress in CL right up to the season of his departure to Torino. I admit he hasn't been been quite as good the last couple of years, but Italian league is very different so not a fair comparison anyway.

    Just goes to show how far football has fallen, a player who is not deemed good enough to play for one team is loaned to another who can't afford to buy him.it really doesn't make sense anymore.

    Decent keeper but he has serious flaws, mentally mostly, too hyperactive. He'll do a job for the hammers but expect quite a few mistakes.

    Good luck to the fella, although the deal is a bit strange. Part pay for his wages, but 4.5m fee? I'm guessing the lad is on a ton of cash at Man City. Meanwhile, West Ham aren't short of a few bob with their almost free stadium etc.

    A good move for both West Ham and Hart although Man City should have replaced him with a decent goalkeeper and not with a clown who looked at times as though he had never before set foot on a football field let alone played in goal and made the rest of the defence look so nervous it beggared belief.
