Kylian Mbappe has told a Spanish reporter he still needs more time to make a decision on his future after being presented with a copy of a frontcover linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

The teenager is one of Europe’s most in-demand players after a stunning breakout campaign in which he netted 15 league goals and became the youngest scorer in a Champions League semi-final.

He is reported to have held a three-hour long conversation with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger over a summer switch, while Real Madrid and PSG managers Zinedine Zidane and Unai Emery both met with the 18-year-old’s family.

The Spanish press have given enormous coverage to Mbappe’s potential switch to Madrid, with newspaper AS even sending a reporter to their pre-season training base in Saillon, Switzerland.

On Friday, they managed to sneak in a question regarding his future, to which he replied: ‘I don’t know if I will stay.’

That did not go down well with the Monaco hierarchy, who instructed their press officer to deny the Spanish press the chance to ambush their star player again, with Mbappe escorted past reporters in his proceeding visits to and from the Swiss Alps training base.

But they managed to grab another word with the player at training on Monday and showed him a copy of a recent edition of AS.

Mbappe browsed the front cover and even chuckled when recollecting the lead image, a picture of him celebrating the title with Prince Albert II of Monaco, though the French champions did not permit the paper to publish any statements from the £130m-rated forward.

But that has not stopped them from loosely reporting the contents of their conversation, saying that Mbappe was surprised by the exhaustive speculation and coverage he has received in Spain.

He asked for calm and says he is in no hurry to make a decision over his future, instead conceded he needed time to properly think about his next move.

That would suit Real Madrid, who are happy to wait for Mbappe until next summer as they have little room in their squad for the French starlet while their famed BBC attack are still so potent.

It has been suggested that Mbappe could sign a contract extension that gives him wage parity with highest earner Radamel Falcao, with the club then prepared to let him leave next summer.

PSG are increasingly resigned to missing out on the forward, with Monaco unwilling to sell to a domestic rival, while Arsene Wenger insisted Arsenal have not made a world-record bid for him as he looks increasingly likely to stay one more year in the south coast of France.
