Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and the numerous other clubs clamouring to sign Kylian Mbappe should reconsider their interest, according to research.

The Monaco striker enjoyed a sensational breakthrough season last term.

The 18-year-old scored 15 goals in Ligue 1 to help Monaco to the title and his six Champions League goals took the French club to the semi-finals of that competition.

Unsurprisingly it has led to a surge of interest in signing him with Real Madrid, Manchester City and Paris St Germain among those on his trail.

If any club is to succeed in their pursuit they will have to stump up in excess of £100million according to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

‘People have big imaginations. What we know now with Mbappe is it’s over £100m, after that it’s free for everyone to imagine,’ said the Frenchman, who is among Mbappe’s biggest admirers.

However research suggests that would be a gross over-payment for the youngster.

The Soccerex 20 Under-21 report, which uses Prime Time Sport’s Football Value Index, conducted research to find the most valuable players under 21.

The study reveals that while Mbappe is the second most valuable player under that age he is still only worth £55m – almost half what clubs seem ready to pay.

How the valuation was reached by Soccerex

The Soccerex Report utilises a Football Value Index compiled by Prime Time Sport and takes into account the player’s age, position, current club, contract length, market value perception, international caps, minutes played, goals, injuries and technical quality from a variety of sources to arrive at a final valuation.

It would seem those pursuing Mbappe might be wise to reconsider their position.

The study comes as interest in the youngster has crossed a line in Monaco’s view, with the club releasing a statement on Thursday revealing they are considering making a complaint to FIFA about the conduct of some of his suitors.

Monaco's statement...

‘AS MONACO regretfully notice that important European football clubs made contact with Kylian Mbappe (and his entourage) without its authorization.

‘AS MONACO want to remind to these clubs that such actions are contrary to the article 211 of the Administrative regulation of the French Football League (Ligue de Football Professionnel) and to the article 18.3 of the Regulation of the Status and the Transfer of the Players of FIFA.’

‘To put an end to this unacceptable situation, AS Monaco consider asking the French Football League (Ligue de Football Professionnel) and FIFA to commit disciplinary procedures against clubs offenders.’
