Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly interested in sealing the transfer of Werder Bremen striker Max Kruse this summer as his club sweat over his future.

The Blues have just secured a deal to bring Alvaro Morata to the club this summer subject to the Spaniard agreeing personal terms and completing a medical, but may not be done strengthening up front.

According to Sport Bild, the Blues are one of two Premier League clubs monitoring Kruse’s situation at Bremen this summer, as he could move for just £16million.

The 29-year-old scored 15 goals in all competitions last season, and weighed in with seven assists in a successful Bundesliga campaign.

Kruse looks the ideal backup to Morata at Stamford Bridge, with Antonio Conte known to be keen on a rotation option in that area amid links with Fernando Llorente and Christian Benteke as well.

Manager Frank Baumann is said to be remaining confident that Werder Bremen can keep hold of Kruse, though it is understood they would not block a big move if one of Chelsea or Liverpool were to come in for him.

The Germany international has a contract with the club until 2019, having only joined from Wolfsburg last summer.

Liverpool could also do with more options up top as Daniel Sturridge remains out of favour with manager Jurgen Klopp, and with Roberto Firmino largely leading the line last season in a slightly unfamiliar false-9 role.
