Arsenal will play away from home after five of their six Europa League group stage clashes and face daunting trips to title rivals Manchester City and Chelsea.

The Gunners were grouped with BATE Borisov, Koln, Red Star Belgrade in Group H of the Europa League today.

Arsenal will play their group matches on a Thursday and each Premier League match afterwards is likely to be moved to a Sunday.

However, Arsene Wenger will be frusrated to learn that the Gunners have just one home league match after their European exploits and play away from home on the other five occasions.

To make matters worse, the Gunners face rivals Everton, Manchester City and Chelsea in three of those away fixtures.

The news could impact Wenger’s attitude towards the competition and he could field weakened teams in preparation for their Premier League fixtures.

Manchester United’s victory in the competition last year earned them a place in the Champions League but there’s no doubt that their gruelling Europa League campaign infringed on their form in the Premier League.

The Gunners lost back-to-back games against Man City and Everton away from home last season and their recent record at Stamford Bridge is poor.

Southampton, too, have proved difficult opponents at St Mary’s in recent years, while Laurent Koscielny’s last minute winner gave Arsenal a 1-0 win at Turf Moor last season.
