Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have been given renewed hope of a possible deal for Virgil van Dijk after the defender pleaded with Southampton to let him go.

The Dutchman has been at the centre of a transfer saga for the entire summer. But with just days of the transfer window remaining, he is still a Southampton player.

Despite having put in a transfer request and trained away from his team-mates, Southampton have been adamant he won’t be sold.

The Sun report that in a last ditch attempt to break the deadlock, Van Dijk has pleaded with the club to let him go.

It’s claimed he held talks with club officials at Southampton’s Staplewood training base where he made it ‘furiously’ clear he wants to go.

The report says he is desperate to move to, and impress, at a big club ahead of next summer’s World Cup. Doing so should make him a front-runner to be in the Netherland’s starting XI for the tournament in Russia.

Should Southampton finally accept his decision, they will find Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool waiting to take the defender on board.

All three clubs are thought to be ready to stump up £60million to sign the former Celtic player.
