Juventus midfielder Christian Poulson on verge of Liverpool switch, says agent

Christian Poulsen will complete a £5.5million move to Liverpool next week, his agent confirmed.

Manager Roy Hodgson wants the 30-year-old Juventus midfielder as a replacement for Javier Mascherano, who is still expected to link up with his former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez at Inter Milan.

‘It won’t take more than a week before this is sorted out,’ said Poulsen’s agent Jorn Bonnesen. ‘It might even be at the beginning of the week. Christian is Roy’s man. He will be playing as a defensive midfielder.’

Meanwhile, Hodgson has assured Jamie Carragher he can finish his career at Anfield, after the veteran defender admitted he feared for his Liverpool future.

Sensing he was in danger of being squeezed out under former boss Benitez, the Liverpool defender was forced to contemplate leaving.

But when asked whether a new deal for the 32-year old was among his priorities, Hodgson said: ‘I’m sure it will be. I now know he’s got only one year left on his contract, but I can see players like Jamie and Steven Gerrard never leaving Liverpool Football Club. I can see them always being part of the club.’

Genoa have stepped in with a £3m bid to sign defender Emiliano Insua.
