Galveston Pirate SC hammered Brenham Lions of the NSSL semi pro League on Saturday and sent the message that the NPSL is the stronger of the two leagues.

It was a hot evening in Brenham, Texas on Saturday and that's the way it stayed for the Galveston Pirates who were on fire, scoring seven goals and keeping another clean sheet.

The Pirates played their best performance of the year with a blistering show away from home but only led 1-0 at half time, however they had total domination of the match.

Jorge Ortuno had opened the scoring with a beauty of a volley from 14 yards out but that's how it stayed until the second half when Roy Hernandez, top scorer and captain, finished off a beautiful move with five quick passes and fired past the Brenham keeper into the bottom corner for his 14th goal of the season so far.

Justin Santibanez then came off the bench and had an immediate impact on the game, scoring the third goal for the Pirates when once again, great passing and movement with Justin ended with Santibanez hammering in a shot from 15 yards out.

New signing Dustin Botting also came off the bench, this time for his first game as a Pirate and made an immediate impact, scoring with his second touch of the ball to make it 4-0 for the NPSL side.

The Pirates were on cruise control at this point and the goals kept coming when Justin Santibanez scored his second and the Pirate's fifth of the game. Jorge Ortuno added his second of the game and then Rolando Espinosa added the seventh for the visitors, for a final score of 7-0 to the Galveston side.

Man of the match was Orlando Gomez who made some great runs and set up three goals, also stopping everything that came his way in defence. Pirate SC have now won three games in a row and will try to go for four for the first time in their history when they face main rival and bitter foe Regals FC next week in what is sure to be the biggest game in their short history in the delayed Houston Cup Final.

Coach Keyes will feel confident that with four new players and his new goalkeeper Eloy Aguirre, who has three clean sheets in his three games, that his team will succeed. He also said that the NPSL is a stronger league and after today's defeat, the Brenham Coach, whose team play in the NSSL (National Star Soccer League) will be sure to agree with that statement as they were totally outplayed by Pirate SC.

Keyes commented after the match "I am sure the Houston Cup Final will be a closer affair and we are looking forward to playing the Regals FC." He continued "It was a great game for us to play today. With it being September 11th, we wanted to pay our respects to the people who perished in 2001 and to the families of the victims by having a minutes silence before the game which went perfectly. We want to represent the NPSL, American Soccer and the American people with pride and respect."

Next weeks Houston Cup final takes place on Friday night, September 17th with a 9pm kickoff at the Legends Sport Complex, Woodlands TX.

We'll all be hoping for another Pirate victory, and with it, some Silverware returning to the good town of Galveston in order to celebrate.
