Carlos Vela Has Come Of Age

11 GunnersContributor ISeptember 17, 2010

Mexican Wave on SongSeen 180 minutes at the Emirates and seen 10 goals, not bad hay?

The home game against Bolton was not as comfortable as the score line suggests. At half time the game was level at 1-1 but like most other fans I was still fairly confident about taking all three points. The sending off and tackle on Abou Diaby got most of the headlines but I would rather concentrate on the victory and leave the issue of tackling to others.

I have always said that you can only do what you control and other factors have to be left for others. If Arsenal perform like they know they can then they can win any game.

Braga came, conceded six goals and then left! Fair play to Braga, they didn’t just put ten men behind the ball and try not to concede, they came and tried to play. For me, that deserves respect.

Even though winning any game in Europe 6-0 is a massive achievement, we must keep our feet on the ground. This was only a group stage game and once the knockout games start, it will be very different. We sometimes do take it for granted that qualification is a certainly which it is not however, the knockouts are where the tournament really starts. Beating Bolton, Blackpool and Braga (the 3 Bs!) is always nice but those away fixtures at the Bridge and Eastlands is what I am looking ahead too as a real test of our title credentials.

As for this week, I have been slightly nervous about the up-coming trip to the Stadium of Light. We lost their last season so we will be desperate to put the record straight. I am always nervous before these types of away games as I feel these are the games that you must win if you are to win the league. Off course you must compete with the top four too but these games do have a massive importance.

One player who has been affective in the last few games of the bench has been Carlos Vela. He had 3 goals from two appearances and most importantly, played up front on his own. I think he is in line to start in the Carling cup mid-week but I would like to see him given a start in the Premier League and game against West Brom could be a good opportunity (but comes quick after the Spurs game). Carlos has also been playing on his own up front which is interesting as Mr Wenger tends to play strikers out wide at first to learn the trade but Carlos has been coming on and going straight up front and scoring. The games at home against teams outside the top ten could be great opportunities to give him a start. With Van Persie and Bendtner out with injury, Chamakh may need a breather so Vela may be used.

I really like the look of Vela, I think his finishing is top class and can be a real player for our club. He can whip a cross in too so could be a useful player on the left or in the centre.

Roll on Sunderland away then Spurs away in the cup. 3 points tomorrow will be huge!

Come on you Arsenal!
