Kaka could leave Real Madrid as Jose Mourinho admits interest in Wayne Rooney
The chase for Wayne Rooney not only has consequences for the Manchester United striker - but also for Real Madrid’s forgotten man Kaka.
The Brazil playmaker had further reason to fear for his Bernabeu future after hearing his boss Jose Mourinho admit he would be interested in Rooney.
And while Kaka and the England striker are different types of players, incorporating Rooney into an already stellar side would give even fewer opportunities for creative players to muscle in.
Up for grabs: Kaka has a wealth of options should he leave Madrid
Manchester City and Chelsea are also keen on Rooney, but may be alerted by Kaka’s situation should they miss out on their first target.
The route to Eastlands may be difficult given that the 28-year-old turned down City in January 2008. But Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti would be keen to work with Kaka again after getting the best out of him during their time together at AC Milan.
Milan and rivals Inter are both also very much in the race for the former Sao Paulo player, despite Mourinho indicating he is looking forward to welcoming back the injured star in the new season.
It is already difficult to see impressive new signing Mesut Ozil making way for Kaka, but adding Rooney to the ranks might just convince Madrid to cash in on a player who cost them £56million last year.
