Manchester United's England defender Rio Ferdinand will be sidelined for two weeks after picking up a calf injury before Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Wolves.

The 32-year-old pulled up in the warm-up before watching his side lose their unbeaten league record this season.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said afterwards that he believes Ferdinand is out for "a couple of weeks".

He will miss England's friendly in Denmark on Wednesday and the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Saturday.

When fit, Ferdinand forms an imposing partnership with Nemanja Vidic at the heart of the United backline, but he has been restricted by back problems in recent seasons.

He had to wait until mid-September to make his first appearance of this campaign because of a knee injury which had already ruled him out of the 2010 World Cup, although he has since returned to England duty in November's friendly defeat by France.
