Manchester City midfielder Yaya Touré unlikely to face FA charge after hitting out at Juan Mata during defeat

Yaya Touré, the Manchester City midfielder, is likely to escape censure after the Ivorian was seen hitting out at Chelsea's Juan Mata twice during Monday night's Premier League meeting at Stamford Bridge.

Touré was seen clearly kicking Mata as the Spanish winger lay on the floor during his side's 2-1 defeat of the league leaders in west London before later television pictures showed the former Barcelona player giving Mata a slap.

Indeed, during the half-time analysis Gary Neville, a television pundit with Sky Sports, highlighted how Touré was lucky to remain in the game which, at the time, was poised at 1-1.

However, it is understood that the Football Association will not review either Touré's kick or slap on Mata after Mark Clattenburg made no mention of the two incidents in his referee's match report.

Meanwhile, sources also suggest that both teams are likely to escape punishment for an alleged altercation in the players' tunnel at full time.

Roberto Mancini, the City manager, had last night accused Ashley Cole of taunting his players in the Stamford Bridge tunnel following their first league defeat of their campaign.

“They were really lively after this game because they have beaten a top team and it is very important for them,” said Mancini.

“I don’t know if Cole said something, I don’t know what he said. I don’t understand. But I think if the Chelsea players are saying we are a top team then this is a compliment.”

Andre Villas-Boas, Mancini's counterpart, though, denied that Cole was to blame. “It is untrue, it is unfair,” he said. “There is always some troublemaker in our wins."
