Arsenal FC: 5 Things You Didn't Know About Emmanuel Frimpong

When Emmanuel Eboue was transferred to Galatasaray during the summer, some wondered who would provide that dressing room spark, who would be the eccentric of the team.

Step up Emmanuel Frimpong.

The feisty Ghanaian midfielder has quickly become a fan favorite, with his wonderfully aggressive style of play and quirky personality off the pitch.

With supporters yearning to know more about the enigma they call Frimpong, I did some research and have turned up with five facts you may not have known about Arsenal's young defensive midfielder.

He may not be Tony Adams by any stretch of the imagination, but like  Adams, Frimpong has thus far only played for one club at a youth of senior level, at least thus far.

Joining the Gunners' youth setup when he was nine years old, Frimpong played in the youth team and reserves for a decade before Arsene Wenger noticed his talent prior to last season and promoted him to the first team ahead of the Emirates Cup.

Unfortunately, his streak of playing solely for Arsenal may soon come to and end, as Wenger might look to give the Ghanaian a consistent run of games to allow him to build some experience instead of merely sitting behind the brilliant Alex Song.

With Adams's blessing, though, he can still be the heir to Mr. Arsenal.

Frimpong may have strong ties to Arsenal, but he was raised in the heart of Tottenham.

He moved to Tottenham at a young age from his native Ghana, and attended school there until he left to focus full-time on his budding career at Arsenal.

In my opinion, the fact that such a bright young talent was snapped up from right under the noses of our closest and most hated rivals only makes Frimpong a more endearing figure.

After Frimpong's glorious comments during the summer, there can be little doubt that he has evolved out of his Tottenham roots, and is now well and truly a Gooner.

Amid the turmoil regarding Samir Nasri a few months ago, Frimpong wrote

I will never leave Arsenal even if I get released. I will beg on both knees to stay. They’re going to have to escort me [out].

How better to make an impression on a supporter base grappling with having players in the squad who regard donning the red and white as a stepping stone, not a privilege.

If you didn't know about Frimpong's remarks before, it must be hard to resist feeling a connection to him now, as another person who truly loves Arsenal Football Club. There don't seem to be enough of those these days.

Why the picture of Marouane Chamakh? Well, both the Moroccan and the Ghanaian have the same ability to score goals at the moment.

All joking aside, it is true that Emmanuel Frimpong has never scored a single goal for Arsenal at the reserve level or the for the senior team.

Ironically, Jack Wilshere is in a bit of trouble for allegedly betting on Frimpong to open his account against Olympiakos, and someday he will break through; he is too active and too effective.

And at some point, his goalscoring odds will surely be lower than Chamakh's.

And here we return to Frimpong's trademark eccentricity. His most significant impact on the world thus far has been the creation of the word "dench," taken from the last name of Dame Judy Dench, with varying quantities of the letter "e."

The word, used mostly as a hash-tag on Twitter, essentially means that something is extremely cool or desirable. And in his brilliance, he has even turned the word into a marketing tool, selling t-shirts and turning it into a brand.

Frimpong's creation merely shows his eccentricity and his extroverted nature, and exemplifies his value to the Arsenal dressing room. He really is a character who Arsenal would do well to keep around for some time, and Arsenal fans the world over hope they do.
