AC Milan are seemingly targeting some of the best players in Europe who are realistically obtainable, and for a club of their stature that is a large pool of players.

It seems that the Rossoneri are quite willing to sell Alexandre Pato in a scenario that will be highly beneficial to the club.

With PSG recently hiring Carlo Ancelotti, the club is smitten on acquiring an array of talent that will meet their new manager's demands, and Pato tops the bill.

A 22-year-old Brazilian international who is already averaging a goal every two games is going to be a costly purchase for the Ligue 1 leaders.

It was first thought the sale will allow the Rossoneri to seal the signing of Carlos Tevez permanently, but it has now emerged that Milan plan to replace Pato, if he leaves, with not just one world class striker but a second as well.

Enter the rumour released by the Metro that Balotelli will become a target for the Rossoneri, which does not seem so far-fetched when you consider the Italian international has always maintained a desire to one day return to his homeland.

With PSG able to meet Milan's asking price for Pato, which is said to be in the region of £42 million (€50 million), Milan will then be able to match City's asking price for Tevez of £20 million before attempting to entice City to sell a player they paid £25 million for just 18 months a go.

Furthermore, ESPN has released quotes from the player maintaining that there is a dialogue between his representatives and not only the Rossoneri but his former club Inter too.

A scenario in which Milan lose one super-talented young striker in Pato, replace him with an equally talented player of a similar age in Balotelli and also acquire a second player in world class striker Tevez is highly attractive.

With transfer supremo Adriano Galliani, everything is possible.

Balotelli has begun to feature more prominently with the Italian national team under Cesare Prandelli and is forming a closer bond with his compatriots than ever before. Despite Balotelli insisting now is not the time, a move back home remains a distinct possibility.

The pursuit of Balotelli along with Tevez might suggest that not only Pato but fellow Brazilian Robinho might be on his way soon, and that Massimiliano Allegri is reshaping a potent attack around cornerstone Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Milan are entering a period of renaissance under the Livornese tactician, and there are signs that the recent dominance in Serie A can be translated to the Champions League with these bold targets.
