Hoops 'very close' to capturing Rossoneri defender

QPR have agreed a deal for left-back Taye Taiwo with AC Milan as new manager Mark Hughes closes on his first signing at Loftus Road. Taiwo has been heavily linked with a Premier League move and it appears QPR have won the race for his signature, with completion of the deal subject to a work permit. The West Londoners confirmed he is "very close" to signing on their official phone-in show, London Call-In, but said they are "waiting for everything to be put into place before we make an official announcement". Reports suggest Taiwo will pen a six-month loan deal and he was pictured with manager Mark Hughes on Twitter on Thursday afternoon.

Good news

QPR midifelder Joey Barton has also been on the social network this evening, posting: "Taye Taiwo from AC Milan signing for the Rs. "Was very good when I [have] seen him for Marseille. Good news. First of many, fingers crossed." Taiwo joined Milan last summer from Marseille, making four Serie A starts for the Rossoneri this season and three in the UEFA Champions League. He had been linked with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United ahead of his summer move, while Arsenal were thought to be targeting him this month. Hughes is keen to strengthen his backline after succeeding Neil Warnock as manager, with Chelsea stopper Alex and Manchester City's Nedum Onuoha also on his radar.
