English Premier League Form Table: Power Ranking All 20 Teams

0 of 20

Manchester City top the English Premier League table on goal differential with one game left.

But are the Blues the league's best form team?

Read on to find out—the answer will probably surprise you.

(Unless, that is, you looked at the picture at the top of this article.)

First, though, a word on how I've compiled the rankings since there seems to be some genuine confusion.

These rankings are based solely on statistics; no value judgments have been made on any team. Every team has been evaluated on the points they've accumulated over their last eight games. Ties were broken with goal differential, and if another tiebreaker was needed, I used goals scored.

Stats are accurate through games played on Monday, May 7 and are notated as follows:

    W: home win

    w: away win

    L: home loss

    l: away loss

    D: home draw

    d: away draw

20. Blackburn Rovers

1 of 20

    Previous: 18

    Form: L, l, W, l, L, l, L, l

    Points: 3

    Goal Differential: -11

    League Position: 19

Comments: See ya later, Rovers, and enjoy life in the Championship. I'm really not sure when we'll see you again.

19. Wolverhampton Wanderers

2 of 20

    Previous: 20

    Form: D, d, L, d, L, l, L, l

    Points: 3

    Goal Differential: -8

    League Position: 20

Comments: Three draws out of their last four games? That qualifies as a great run for Wolves.

18. Swansea City

3 of 20

    Previous: 14

    Form: l, D, d, W, l, L, l, L

    Points: 5

    Goal Differential: -8

    League Position: 12

Comments: Good thing the Swans secured their Premier League status early. They've been poor lately.

17. Aston Villa

4 of 20

    Previous: 19

    Form: D, d, L, D, l, D, d, L

    Points: 5

    Goal Differential: -7

    League Position: 16

Comments: I keep saying it, and I still think it's true: If the season were a month longer, Villa would definitely be relegated.

Villa have won just seven games this season—that's second-fewest in the league.

On the other hand, they've drawn 17.

How can one team draw so many matches?

16. Stoke City

5 of 20

    Previous: 16

    Form: l, D, D, l, d, W, l, D

    Points: 7

    Goal Differential: -5

    League Position: 14

Comments: Stoke don't seem to care what happens down the stretch.

I guess it's hard to blame them.

15. Liverpool

6 of 20

    Previous: 11

    Form: L, w, L, w, D, l, L, l

    Points: 7

    Goal Differential: -2

    League Position: 9

Comments: Ninth place, Liverpool? Come on. You're better than that.

    Right?

14. Norwich City

7 of 20

    Previous: 17

    Form: d, L, l, L, w, D, l, W

    Points: 8

    Goal Differential: -9

    League Position: 13

Comments: The Canaries put together a nice game against Arsenal over the weekend and fully deserved a point.

13. Sunderland

8 of 20

    Previous: 15

    Form: l, D, d, D, l, D, d, W

    Points: 8

    Goal Differential: 3

    League Position: 11

Comments: Sunderland have somehow managed to match draw-kings Aston Villa, with five draws over their last eight games.

12. Bolton Wanderers

9 of 20

    Previous: 8

    Form: D, L, d, w, D, l, L, w

    Points: 9

    Goal Differential: -6

    League Position: 18

Comments: I still think Wanderers will win on the final day of the season—they'll be inspired by Fabrice Muamba—and secure another season of Premier League football.

11. West Bromwich Albion

10 of 20

    Previous: 10

    Form: d, D, w, W, l, W, l, L

    Points: 11

    Goal Differential: -3

    League Position: 10

Comments: Roy Hodgson's farewell is set for this weekend at the Hawthorns.

10. Queens Park Rangers

11 of 20

    Previous: 9

    Form: W, l, W, l, W, l, W, l

    Points: 12

    Goal Differential: -4

    League Position: 17

Comments: Win at home. Lose away. Perfect symmetry.

QPR will lose again this weekend at Man City, and mark it down now: That loss will see Rangers relegated.

9. Tottenham Hotspur

12 of 20

    Previous: 13

    Form: d, w, W, l, L, d, W, d

    Points: 12

    Goal Differential: 5

    Goals Scored: 11

    League Position: 4

Comments: Spurs blew a big opportunity to take over third place this past weekend. How costly will that draw with Aston Villa be?

8. Arsenal

13 of 20

    Previous: 7

    Form: D, d, D, L, w, W, l, W

    Points: 12

    Goal Differential: 5

    Goals Scored: 13

    League Position: 3

Comments: Arsenal should have sealed third place weeks ago, but the Gunners can't seem to win without Mikel Arteta in the midfield.

7. Chelsea

14 of 20

    Previous: 5

    Form: L, W, d, d, W, w, D, l

    Points: 12

    Goal Differential: 5

    Goals Scored: 14

    League Position: 6

Comments: It's been a nice run for the Blues, but it looks like their only route to the Champions League next season will be winning this year's competition.

6. Fulham

15 of 20

    Previous: 12

    Form: W, w, l, W, D, w, W, l

    Points: 16

    Goal Differential: 2

    League Position: 8

Comments: Hats off to Fulham for their excellent run-in. Should Clint Dempsey think twice about leaving?

5. Manchester United

16 of 20

    Previous: 3

    Form: W, l, D, W, l, W, w, W

    Points: 16

    Goal Differential: 9

    League Position: 2

Comments: Uh oh—United are one game away from a trophy-less season (not counting the Community Shield).

4. Everton

17 of 20

    Previous: 6

    Form: d, d, W, d, W, d, W, w

    Points: 16

    Goal Differential: 12

    League Position: 7

Comments: Even with three draws in their last four games, Everton are one of the league's most in-form sides.

3. Manchester City

18 of 20

    Previous: 2

    Form: w, W, w, w, W, l, D, d

    Points: 17

    Goal Differential: 13

    League Position: 1

Comments: One more win, and then it's time to celebrate.

    Don't blow it now, City.

2. Newcastle United

19 of 20

    Previous: 1

    Form: L, w, l, W, W, w, W, w

    Points: 18

    Goal Differential: 7

    League Position: 5

Comments: Newcastle have lost two out of their last three games, but that losing run came after five straight wins.

That's why they're still so high on the form table.

1. Wigan Athletic

20 of 20

    Previous: 4

    Form: w, W, l, w, W, l, W, w

    Points: 18

    Goal Differential: 8

    League Position: 15

Comments: Well done, Wigan. You deserve another year in the top flight.
