Someone Spent Almost $1000 in Black Ops 4 Black Market Max Rewards, Wields Only One Weapon Variant

How far does the Black Market rabbit hole go? It seems over 900 tiers. Someone bought his way to the end, and only got on weapon variant for spending close to $1,000.

Srhalo1984d ago

Spending $1000 on a game that cost $60. So sad... People like this make gaming worse for everyone, no wonder all these companies want loot boxes and MT's... it only takes one idiot to make it worth it for them.

UCForce1984d ago

The problem is that people keep defending these practices until publishers will force us to buy their greed and pride. I remember Metal Gear Survive MT had pushed too far. Before that, BF2 MT did the same things. Small or big, it is not acceptable.

DarXyde1984d ago

No one is being forced to buy anything.

In the event that this becomes the industry standard, the industry will die and be rebuilt upon the ashes of the old with more consumer friendly practices. Gaming is not like clean water or heat. It is not needed, and I'm sure most of us have living expenses and priorities. That said, people can't afford to have this kind of thing forced upon them... and neither can Activision.

It would be a glorious case study and example for the rest of the industry if Activision goes under from a lack of support in the future: that no one is safe if you take consumer gouging too far.

The industry will regulate itself by consumer interest. Call of Duty has cornered a market, but once they go too far, someone will fill the void.

Even if a few people have poor impulse control, it's not enough to keep Activision wealthy.

UCForce1984d ago (Edited 1984d ago )

@DarXyde No, but these publishers manipulated consumers and tested our psychology to want something more and they will put more tedious thing to force us to give them more money.

Zeref1984d ago

ou people seem to forget that developers need to make a living there are PEOPLE behind these games, game development costs keep rising yet you don't want MTs but you also don't want games to be more expensive than $60, we also don't want subscription services? THEY NEED TO MAKE MONEY SOMEHOW! get that through thick entitled little skulls, you think they should be working for free or something? Or get shitty salaries?(which even with MTs they already do)

MTs are here to stay, it's up to us to keep publishers in check when they go too far.

UCForce1984d ago (Edited 1984d ago )

@Zeref I know that. But there is another way that is way better than this greedy antics. You should know better. There is so many positive ways to improve your work and your staffs as well than this negative. But of course, you only defending the negative.

Sophisticated_Chap1984d ago

Maybe it was someone's kid who just rang up his parent's credit card, and is now in for the biggest ass wooping of his life...

C4rnos1983d ago

I'm not sure if everyone always bringing up Metal Gear Survive's MT has even played it, but the MT are for a very few select things and 10 minutes in you forget about them entirely because they're not pushed on you, nor are they even very useful honestly.

If you want extra revives/chances in the mp component then sure, but the game is clearly focused on SP which is drastically different to what many expected i believe, you can't buy an advantage there.

I'm still confused as to why people genuinely seemed concerned about character slots for a base building game.. complaining for the sake of it, hey if you wanna spend another 20-30 hours playing the game over sure. but you can just replay the missions ^^'

Dragonscale1983d ago (Edited 1983d ago )

@zeref, these poor pubs like activision and ea who make billions every year really need that extra cash. Its a bullcrap argument and is purely motivated by greed tbh. EA even told their investors that without mt's their profits would be massive, that will also apply to activision and ubisoft etc. Don't fall for it they're just pulling the wool over your eyes fgs.

His money if he is happy with his purchase good for him.

FPS_D3TH1984d ago

It’s not good for him. If you don’t think developers have to negatively impact a game experience just to include purchases like this then you’re sadly misinformed.

Dreamcatcher451984d ago

True, but the rest of us must "suffer" because some people keep this bs practice alive.

1984d ago
TimelessDbz1984d ago

People like him are the reason why you get content updates frequently on a game. If its just a one time purchase then dont expect support for the game.

The person that gave you a downvote believes in MT's and spending $1000 on a game lmao 😂

FITgamer1984d ago

I have a friend who bought all of the remaining tiers when they brought in COD points. The funny part is that since then he's already put almost 5 days (play time) into just Blackout and he would have unlocked them all for free.

kneon1984d ago (Edited 1984d ago )

This is what I don't get, usually it's not that hard to unlock most stuff in games, just play.

I was playing Overwatch during the Halloween event and someone on my team mentioned that they had bought a couple dozen loot boxes. I think that's about $25. I had collected so many loot boxes by the end of the event that I was getting duplicate items in the last 5 or 6 loot boxes. I bought the game last summer for $10 and since that time have received around 450 loot boxes without spending anything, and can't see anything that would ever make me want to spend more.

zeuanimals1983d ago

It only takes one idiot, or one person with too much money and not enough ways to spend it.

gangsta_red1984d ago

Hmmmm, I mean, this all just seems a little too far fetched but it it's set up so I guess it can happen.

When you step back a realize how much you spent though, man, can't even imagine that feeling.

parris1984d ago

What's far fetched? I have seen people talking about spending ten's of thousands in loot box games to get items with .001 percent odds. There are tons of people who have spent tens of thousands in games like Fifa... there is nothing at all unbelievable about this.

gangsta_red1984d ago

Tens of thousands? Yeah, I'm going to really call that far fetched.

parris1984d ago

https://mashable.com/articl...

There was a thread on reddit for a free to play MMO where people talked about spending 10's of thousands a while a ago. A bunch of people also talked about spending hundreds of dollars every week in the game.
I know you know what I am saying is correct but you are going to be argumentative because well your you.

gangsta_red1984d ago

"I know you know what I am saying is correct but you are going to be argumentative because well your you."

You know what's funny about that is in my OP I specifically say ...

"..so I guess it can happen."

Meaning that I suppose this thing could happen.

But here you come wanting to actually argue that TONS of people spent tens of thousands of dollars on FIFA then link to one person who did just that.

So yeah, pretty far fetched.

elazz1984d ago

There have been people losing relationships and gettinging in trouble because they took on more and more debts to satisfy their Fifa ultimate team addiction. Some people bought 8K pounds of coins in a few months. These big companies like EA, Activision and many mobile companies are putting very sneaky gambling methods in games. They know many won't buy them but they thrive on those that they can activate some areas in their brain to spend a lot.

parris1984d ago (Edited 1984d ago )

See this is exactly what I was talking about. You said it was "a little too far fetched" then I replied to you saying no it wasn't so again you had to reply "I'm going to really call that far fetched" doubling down on what you said. So I showed you an article talking about someone who spent $10,000 on Fifa and I assure you this person isn't the only person but most people don't talk about it. It's an addiction like gambling addiction. And again, I I am telling you flat out many people admitted to spending thousands of dollars on reddit.

Do you not understand for many of these people it's not $10,000 in an afternoon it's a couple hundred a week or so over the course of months or years. A person who spends 100$ a week only needs to play a game for 2 years to spend $10,000 I know for a fact there are people who are spending more than that in games. You can be smug and disagree like you do or make up some excuse as to why what you said wasn't wrong because you always feel like you need to get the last word in but your wrong.

Its not far far fetch I personally know a couple who have dropped 900 this month on fortnight.

gangsta_red1984d ago

I personally know no one that has done this so yes, it is far feteched.

rainslacker1984d ago

Taking it outside the anecdotal, we all know that there are people that spend a lot of money on these things. We often hear reports of it, and the publishers themselves have coined the term "whale" to describe them.

It's not far fetched in the least. Maybe not as common as people may assume, but there certainly are people out there that do it.

FunAndGun1984d ago (Edited 1984d ago )

Probably happens most on mobile, but there are definitely big spenders out there, it's the whales these companies want.

Shikoku1984d ago (Edited 1984d ago )

@red
No its not far fetch at all, you want it to be because you're pro taking in the ass from the industry. Every post you make is defending the piss poor decision dev and pubs make.

parris1984d ago

@gangsta_red

"I personally know no one that has done this so yes, it is far feteched."

Congratulations this is probably the dumbest most ignorant thing you have ever said, that's an accomplishment.

Basically every reply is saying your wrong, but I guess even though this topic has nothing to do with PlayStation or xbox all these people and all the down votes are just PS fanboys and not the fact your just wrong...

Eidolon1983d ago (Edited 1983d ago )

I wouldn't doubt someone making crazy salary would spend that much, but JESUS, that's rent in a lot of areas in the U.S., shows how much gambling and digital vanity is a problem.. those types of people, they're selfish, vain, and if they ever struggle financially, they deserve it. I also doubt you know millionaires, because that would be the only explanation.

Livingthedream1983d ago

I can see 900 since release, but 900 this month? Fortnite doesn't produce enough new content in one month to warrant the amount. Unless they are purchasing every terrible emote and character available.

I wouldn't call this far fetched at all.

Look at the stories we got out of people spending thousands of dollars on Star Citizen. Once upon a time, this kind of thing COULD have (and still should be in my opinion) been considered far fetched. But the fact is people spending ridiculous amounts on games is becoming common

UCForce1984d ago

Nope, it’s not far fetched. I remember people have done like this before and they fell in the pride that they shouldn’t have.

Godmars2901984d ago

And this is exactly the type of person modern AAA gaming is looking for. Why the industry is retailoring itself to favor a minority. A minority that does this.

Mekami861984d ago

Microtrans dont bother me as long as you can unlock them all for free.. people dumb enough to pay for em is not my problem

lodossrage1984d ago

Actually, it does become your problem, as it will with the rest of us as well.

When we get people dumb enough to do things like this, other companies in the industry start to do the same because they see people are willingly dumb enough to do it.

It's a problem that will become an even bigger problem if people don't stand up and fight back.

Xbox Fans Call Out 'Activision's Greed' Over Call Of Duty Digital Prices

This week's Deals with Gold selection on Xbox has rubbed certain Xbox fans the wrong way, as several Call of Duty titles are still ludicrously priced - despite being discounted by up to 67% off over the next few days.

purexbox.com
VersusDMC957d ago

How is 20 dollars for X360 call of duty games "ludicrously" overpriced?

And with Activision's lawer bills skyrocketing at the moment you are not going to be seeing deep discounts for a bit.

Chevalier957d ago

Pretty sure that's the sale off that's 60% off. After the sale ends that 360 game is still listed at $49.99, right not its $19.99 because the 60% off.

VersusDMC956d ago

I guess they can wait for the next sale then.

SullysCigar956d ago

It's nice to see the Xbox community stand up for themselves though. That's been needed for a long time.

InUrFoxHole956d ago

For a long time? Its the reason xbox is killing it this gen.

senorfartcushion956d ago

Lawsuits don’t cost billions, they’re ALWAYS going to be fine for money.

They could stack their bills on the ground and fill half the continent of Africa at this point.

RaiderNation956d ago

Because Xbox fans are so used to playing games on the Xbox EBT subscription service, the idea of paying anything for a game seems ludicrous to them.

MadLad956d ago (Edited 956d ago )

You pay for the service.

Do you have Amazon Video?
Hulu?
Netflix?

It's a subscription service. Not a charity. You're literally going at people over the idea of using a pro consumer service, and that's the real joke here.

thorstein956d ago

When records were sold, they were eventually replaced by tapes, which cost less to manufacture, but more to buy. Then CDs came along and were cheaper to manufacture, but cost more at retail. Digital, of course, is the cheapest yet, but billion dollar corporations want to charge the same.

And no, that money is not going to the person sitting in the chair actually making the game.

It is pure and utter greed from people who don't need any more money.

InUrFoxHole956d ago

Lol calm down Bobby. You crapped on thus franchise.

"Many have also noted how the multiplayer in several of these titles is either dead or filled with hackers, meaning players are paying a hefty sum for a short campaign and potentially some zombie modes."

With these clear truths the decades older COD games should be permanently 19.99 regular price and sale prices 7.99 minimum

autobotdan956d ago

Typo sale prices 2.99 minimum and 9.99 maximum. Older COD tiles seven years old or older should never be over 20 dollars regular price

senorfartcushion956d ago

I have paid less than 3 dollars for some AAA PS4 games, old 360 CoD games should not be $20

FanboysKiller956d ago

Any fps game runs by the quirk engine follows this logic
Eat
Sleep
Die instantly
Repeat
As if the main purpose of the game more of "repeat" than the actual gameplay experience , any noob in this game will tell you his mind stucked in repeating the sequence number of deaths than the gameplay itself , what a complete pile of #.

EvertonFC956d ago

It's why I don't play cod anymore, my 45yr old hands can't compete with these kids 😂 🤣
1 kill to every 10 deaths is not fun

John_McClane956d ago

Don't let that stop you if you enjoy the game, it's actually pretty good for hand/eye coordination.

lipton101956d ago

Try Escape from Tarkov. It forces you to slow down and think. I’m not a fan of the ADD speed of CoD

Father__Merrin956d ago

All the back compat titles are cheap listing when you scroll through them u till you come to black ops it's a complete rip off

Rhythmattic956d ago (Edited 956d ago )

Well... Don't buy it..... Is it really that hard to comprehend?
Everything else you choose to purchase with your hard earned cash , so should games be held to the same reasoning....
Just don't give em the cash....

Entitlement that's bizarre, from the publisher and from the consumer.... Thats pretty fkd up if you think about it...

GhostofHorizon956d ago

It's hilarious that some people don't see this as an option.

MadLad956d ago

Bananas now cost $30 a pound. There's no good reason for it, but if you want bananas, there you go.

You don't have to buy them.

It's about their constant greed when handling the franchise. Nobody has to buy anything, but when a company doesn't follow corporate norms when selling their product; overpricing their old wares just because they can, the consumer is allowed to call that out.

GhostofHorizon956d ago

Consumer can call them out, but I think they are going about it the wrong way.

The reason they get away with everything they do is simply because they can. They can charge $20 for a skin pack because people will gladly buy it. There is plenty of competition for FPS games, it's not like it's a niche market.

I know it's easier to blame and demand better from Activision than people that keep buying these overpriced items. If they weren't being bought, Activision would lower the price though. People like to pretend to take the high road but wouldn't you rather sell the banana for $30 than $3 if people are willing to buy it?

franwex956d ago

@therealtedcruz

I think there’s a virus destroying the banana and may even go extinct. So maybe that’s why.

I think it’s happen before too.

MadLad955d ago

A small subset buys those skins and whatnot. Most players don't. The "whale" mindset is pretty accurate across the board, where there's a small handful who buy a lot, and most who don't buy any. Either way, that means they're imposed on the majority either way.

That's different from overpricing your game though. Activision easily makes their money off every release, then milks it until the next release, then throws it away. They never put significant sales on even a release from several cycles ago. Whether it sells or not.

And I mean, yeah; if I were a business, I'd probably want to make as much money as possible.
But I'm not a business; I'm a consumer, thus I find many businesses to be complete assholes.

Rhythmattic950d ago

And people are still blaming the high prices but suggest they're still wiling to buy it... Not too smart are you peoples....

Its a non regulated pricing structure, sure , many play by the status-quo , but to actually complain by complaining, instead of standing your ground and not buying it, by buying it , you are the reason its happening....

Idiots, Idiots everywhere.... What? So those that are complaining don't want to pay the money, but cant do without it?

FFS. Entitlement level 5000...
Drink some cement and harden the Fk up!

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 950d ago
Sitdown956d ago

The article and title isn't saying that people are buying it, its simply saying that they are calling them out for greed. I guess you had a problem with people calling out Microsoft for trying to increase the price of Live, and don't understand how voicing concern led to them backing away from the decision.

Teflon02956d ago

People need to put that energy into Nintendo's Pricing over Activisions tbh. They're focused on the wrong things

Rhythmattic950d ago (Edited 950d ago )

Greed? Ok... Dont buy it and prove that by being greedy , they got it wrong... Not that hard to understand is it?
To Add... I haven't bought Cod since MW2.... Because of these exact practices.... Fact.
