Resident Evil 2 Review - IGN

Now THIS is how you remake a classic. Resident Evil 2 expertly reanimates the horrifying atmosphere and moments of extreme tension that made the original so revered.

-Foxtrot1917d ago (Edited 1917d ago )

I think I do. GAME cancelled my collectors edition pre order...urgh. Now I'll have to find it somewhere else, I hate GAME so much, if it wasn't for them getting exclusives I wouldn't use them.

On Topic

YESSSS. Resident Evil is back :D

See guys, Capcom CAN do it; they can make a Resident Evil game that sticks to the franchises roots and also is a proper survival horror game

Where are all the people who called me when Resident Evil VII came out and told me the franchise HAD to go First Person? That it needed to “evolve” and that it was the only way to stay “fresh” because “old school Resident Evil can’t be updated” or “it’s just out of date in general”

This my friends is a true Resident Evil experience

Well Done Capcom..well done.

Nyxus1917d ago (Edited 1917d ago )

RE7 was fun in its own right though.

-Foxtrot1917d ago

RE7 was a new IP in disguise which was trying to latch onto the success of games like Five Nights, Outlast and especially P.T they managed to get in their during development. I bet if you look at the Resident Evil 6.5 concept stuff, if it was ever released, you'd see a different more traditional game. Just like how the simple idea of co-op completely changed Resident Evil 5, if you see the concept art of Resident Evil 4.5 it's completely different.

It was just better accepted since Resident Evil 6, Operation Raccoon City and Umbrella Corps sucked so much and wern't horror based at all. However RE7 was horror based at times but just wasn't really as scary unless you used the VR. It was a step up either way from RE6.

It basically featured some RE elements from the older games but half arsed them, the demo to Resident Evil 2 blew RE7 out of the water, it was oozing in old school Resident Evil charm and like I said proves Resident Evil doesn't need to go first person in order to survive.

VsAssassin1917d ago

I thoroughly enjoyed RE7, though. I wouldn't mind Capcom making RE8 in FPV because of how I was surprised by RE7. I don't have a problem with an RE4 style camera, mind you, but RE7 just so clicked with me that it made me a believer in Capcom once again.

ArchangelMike1917d ago

Yeah I don't pre-order from GAME anymore. Way too many bad experiences with their "day 1" delivery that arrives a week and a half late.

Artemidorus1917d ago

GAME? Have you learned nothing about that company?

-Foxtrot1917d ago

@Artemidorus

Like I said, they have exclusives in terms of collectors editions or cool little pre order bonuses

If Amazon did them I'd happily shop there instead, when my Batman Arkham Knight CE was delayed they sent me a download code so I could still play the same, when I told them I lived in student accom and the internet was awful they sent me a physical game while I waited.

Nacho_Z1917d ago

7 was also a true Resident Evil, it had all the necessary ingredients. It's not fair or accurate to portray it as almost not an official game because it did a few things differently.

I'd be happy if Resi 8 was first person again and now they've backed that horse it probably will be. I also wouldn't mind more of a classic feel to it but I respect the new stuff they brought to the table because it worked.

Marioraider181917d ago (Edited 1917d ago )

Don't listen to Foxtrot he is ignorant on Resident Evil and only wants his vision of it. Resident Evil 7 was a damn good game, but instead the fool talks more about Resident Evil 7 than he does Resident Evil 6 which was ACTUALLY a bad game. He thinks an fast arcade shooter without horror elements is more Resident Evil than Resident Evil 7 was. He is a CLOWN

Xb1ps41917d ago

I loved re7 and hope they continue in that direction..

-Foxtrot1917d ago (Edited 1917d ago )

@Marioraider18

Oh my God, that’s hilarious coming from you

No no seriously. Clown? 😂

Wow I’m a lot of things but I’m not as many things as you.

Oh and maybe if you pull your head out you’ll stop twisting things. I never said RE6 was better then RE7

When someone makes things up you know they’re full of shit

NecrumOddBoy1917d ago (Edited 1917d ago )

I don't know how anyone could say that Resident Evil 7 was not a Resident Evil game. I had a first-person perspective but it still had all of what makes Resident Evil what it is it was horrifying, the inventory system, puzzles, Corky story revolved around a terrifying medium.

Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 7 both control very similar with the exception that one is in first person.

Also can anyone confirm if you'll have the ability to swap shoulders and Resident Evil 2 similar to Uncharted? I think it would be good for pieing around corners

Babadook71917d ago (Edited 1917d ago )

I think RE 7 made the right choice. And imho, if you didn’t play it in vr, you missed out.

They also made the right choice here. Way to go capcom!

VsAssassin1917d ago

@-Foxtrot, I disagree that RE7 is not really an RE game--that it's only pretending to be one. RE7 has elements that honor the semi-open world design of the first and the progression system experienced in RE4. If RE8 does the same, and improves upon mechanics that work in an RE game, whether it's in 3rd or 1st person, I'm sold!

CrimsonWing691917d ago

I’m a huge Resident Evil fan and I absolutely loved RE7. I will never get some of the hate for the game because for me it really felt like old school RE more so than RE4 - 6.

thepatientgamer1916d ago

RE7 definitely had the RE soul even though it was first person. Not being able to see behind you added that extra tension when being chased throughout the house

schmauser1915d ago

dont worry about it buddy its all plastic tat anyway.....

is it just me or the score was bumped up from 88 to 90?
anyway, day 1 for me!!

watchem1917d ago

yeah, noticed that too, strange.

AntiZeal0t1917d ago

They didn't understand that after you beat the game, there's a "second run" mode which is kind of like completing a small B Scenario for whichever character you didn't pick. When they first reviewed it they thought that the two separate campaigns were just the same thing with the different characters and slight story changes. Once they figured out how to do the second run mode they amended their score.

Neonridr1917d ago

too much blood.. 8.8

can't wait to play this game.

Nyxus1917d ago (Edited 1917d ago )

The art of difficulty: What’s the best way to make games harder?

There are many ways that a game developer can choose to raise the difficulty in their games — but which ways are the most effective?

A great example on how to do difficulty in a video game is DOOM ETERNAL. Started playing on ULTRA VIOLENCE but then I started playing on NIGHTMARE after a couple hundred hours of playing on UV . What makes DOOM ETERNAL fun, is on Nightmare, the enemies are very aggressive ,but they give you the tools to defeat difficult enemies , you just have to learn how to use them .

FinalFantasyFanatic37d ago

Doom Eternal was so tough, but it felt so amazing to finish that game, even when the enemy feels unfair and gang up/box up into a corner.

Nacho_Z37d ago

Personal dislikes are bullet sponges and bosses with regular enemies thrown in. Just make the boss hit harder if it's too easy.

thorstein37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

I think Helldivers 2 really gets it right. If enemies are easy, they swarm. If they're high level, they tend to have good defense and need strategems to take down...or bait.

I never feel too angry if I die by swarm because it is usually my fault for not checking my 6. I don't even mind dying if a teammate drops a bomb on the swarm that is gutting me.

I don't like cheap deaths. When the game allows you to progress only to hit you with an enemy that is suddenly immune to all the things you've unlocked and mastered is just dumb. If the game doesn't do hit boxes right and you get killed in lame ways it is dumb.

The screenshot is from Elden Ring, a game I really enjoyed, but the scaling was silly. I didn't do the Eligtree til late game so it was goofy difficult. I thought the Elden Beast was rather cheap. Not a fun skill based match, but just cheap enemy. There was no sense of, "oh it defeated me because I did this or I did that" like all Souls/Borne games.

Crows9037d ago

Don't handhold. There you go. every game is immediately harder and more rewarding.

DarXyde37d ago

1. Intelligent opponents that don't have some set, optional strategy to win and requires more critical thinking.

2. Game provides players with the knowledge and tools about a game world to stand a chance (or at the very least, the opportunity to gain the knowledge and tools).

3. Don't insist on enemies having much more health than the player arbitrarily. Sometimes, you'll have more durable enemies who are armored or inhuman which I would say is fair. The best approach to this I can recall in recent memory is Naughty Dog games: You're extremely vulnerable without armor and can get picked off pretty easily, but your enemies are pretty beatable with the right weapons and strategies where you can't just brute force it. That said, ammo is in short supply, so you engage at your own risk.

4. Depending on the type of games, make resources more scarce without necessarily making enemies bullet sponges. It simply means you'll have to choose your battles carefully and have damn good aim. Like Uncharted. If you're not good at headshots, Crushing is a rough time.

The 7 Best Video Game Remakes of All Time

Remaking video games is not a new trend, but it is more popular than ever. Which are the best video game remakes of all time?

shinoff218371d ago

It's a crime star ocean 2 remake isn't on this list. Jeez

kevco3370d ago

There's so many remakes coming out these days, I'm sure many people's favourites won't have made the cut!

jznrpg70d ago

I agree with you. It’s was so good I finished it way faster than I wanted to.

ApocalypseShadow70d ago

Where's the 2D love? Like Strider and Bionic Commando Rearmed? Some of my personal Remake favorites.

LightofDarkness70d ago

Those games were excellent, especially loved that Strider reboot back just after the PS4 released.

got_dam70d ago

Links awakening was fun, but it STILL runs very poorly. Slowdown all over the place.

DefenderOfDoom270d ago (Edited 70d ago )

For a 90s video game remake I would put QUAKE 2 at the top. Nightdive did a amazing job . And Machine Games added awesome new content.

Soy70d ago

Dead Space over Mario All-Stars, esp since All-Stars was just a graphical upgrade. Otherwise.....can't quibble much with that list.
