Torchlight 2 Switch developer hints at Switch Pro

The Torchlight 2 Switch port is looking pretty good, as it seemed to hold up as explosion rocked the action RPG's world. Dan Hernberg from Panic Button recently sat down with us to talk about the port while also speaking oddly about the rumored Switch Pro.

I’m really hoping for a Switch Pro.

jznrpg1736d ago (Edited 1736d ago )

I also want a Pro , but I’m worried it may not be worth what they will charge for it . Will they upgrade it enough ?

Neonridr1736d ago

time will tell on that one.

killswitch801735d ago

they will charge 299 I bet and drop the price of the current to 225 and the lite to 150.

DarXyde1735d ago

Hard to say, but I am doubtful a Switch Pro would be a hybrid, much like the Switch Lite. This might be more of a traditional console because my expectation is the battery life will be pretty bad (unless they allow for something like a solar backup, which I really don't see happening). To increase tech while moderating price, I expect there will be an interest in gutting the portability features.

Nintendo is certainly taking an interesting approach this generation. I'm quite curious to see what happens next.

Segata1735d ago

The most they can do is drop in an X2. It would not be a massive upgrade but you would see a difference.

Inzo1735d ago

Word is it will retail more or less at the original asking price.

ABizzel11735d ago

They can't change it much, because all base hardware will still have to have the same functionality in over 90% of the games. At best you get Tegra X2, and with the performance boost there more games will run at 720p portable and 1080p docked, with the same FPS they currently have, but more stable.

We might be able to get a bit more battery life out of handheld mode since the X2 uses less power, but at best it'll just match the new Lite.

We'll have to wait for a Switch 2, to see a more full featured version of what the handheld could really do with a Tegra Xavier or Orin chip (Xbox One performance), more RAM, better OS / software, and larger internal storage.

It's really not an IF it's just a WHEN?

Mindphyx778221735d ago

If all you ppl want a more powerfull console why not buy a ps4 to begin with? Best games and what your switch pro you'll get games in 720P vs 540P now? Ooooh wow 720P 15 year old technology goooooo switch pro.

iplay1up21735d ago (Edited 1735d ago )

The X1X, is still the most powerful. Can't bring it to work or on the go. That is where Switch comes in. A pro with a 1080p screen. Larger screen, would not make the console bigger, it could just take away from some of the "framing" of the screen. Faster processors. I would be in.

EddieNX 1735d ago (Edited 1735d ago )

The Switch is portable and has Nintendo exclusives . The PS4 has neither of those things.

Comparing a portable console to a home console is borderline retarded .

It's like comparing the GBA to the PS2 and saying ' the PS2 has better graphics!!!'

Oh really , does it? No sh&t .

n1kki61735d ago

Gamers can't make up their minds. 2 years ago people hated iterative consoles when it was the xbox and ps4, but now gamers are demanding it. Ok.

Vits1736d ago

I think is just a matter of time before Nintendo reveals it. However I wouldn't wait for a huge improvement over the original console. My bet is that is going to be based on the new Tegra X1 revision, with a overall (25-35)% higher clocks when compared with the original model and maybe a version with 64 GB for storage.

Si-Fly1735d ago

That’s not really your bet is it? A regurgitated bet 😆

Vits1735d ago

No, that is really my expectations for the console.
However, anyone that knows a little about the Tegra platform would expect something similar. So it's not a surprise that you have already saw someone making the same "bet".

gunfan1735d ago

Hey is that you killer?

Si-Fly1735d ago

It’s your expectation because you read it, just admit it 😂

Nitrox1735d ago

I know, right? F that guy for sharing an opinion informed by something he may have read by others.

Original thoughts only on this site or gtfo 🙄

Should have waited till he was done with his coffee before pushing the question, because he's a procaffinator. Anyway, enjoy that coffee, Dan.

IMissJimRyan1736d ago

Nintendo will achieve the feat of selling 3 Switches to the same people in less than 3 years.

Just as it sold the same games twice on Wii U and Switch.

It's to applaud this business strategy.

Neonridr1736d ago

it sold a few games twice, let's not act like we have the entire Wii U library on the Switch.

pietro12121736d ago

I wish we did. I really want Waker Waker, Twilight Princess and Tokyo Mirage Sessions on the Switch

1736d ago
Segata1735d ago

Still waiting on a Wonderful 101 & Tokyo Mirage Sessions port. Esp TMS as it's as close to an Atlus Persona game that is an RPG on Switch as Switch owners can get.

shuvam091735d ago (Edited 1735d ago )

@pietro1212 Me too...
I too want all my previous PS games on the PS5...
But hopefully I won't have to pay again lol...

pietro12121734d ago

shuvam09
That'd be nice wouldn't it? Haha

All the companies do it though. PS4 Slim and Pro, Xbox Slim/Whatever, X, digital only. There are always multiple hardware versions of consoles going back generations.

Nintentional1735d ago

Yet the Wii U ports on Switch have well past outsold their original Wii U counterparts, which means a lot of those Wii U port sales were from first time buyers.

And you act like Sony didn’t sell PS2 games on PS3 and PS3 games on PS4. PS2 games on Vita too, which were terrible ports btw.

The next thing you’ll complain about is the price of Wii U ports being a full $60 on Switch, but Nintendo is able to sell them at a full $60 because their IP is more valuable, and has more brand recognition than Sony IP. You don’t think Sony would try to sell ports @ $60 if they could?? Video games are a BUSINESS. The main goal is to turn a profit, wake up lol.

shuvam091735d ago

Which gives me an idea...
Switch Pro should be a traditional console that has a disk drive...
And it is backwards compatible with every main console before it...

TheEroica1735d ago

Nobody bought a wiiu... Far more gamers experiencing their games on switch for the first time.

hanko141736d ago

they need a pro. the switch needs improvements such as blue tooth, graphics, transfer files from internal memory to sd, bigger internal memory, battery life, a double back stand and there's probably more. and maybe better controller bits, where actually hold it like a normal controller. plus normal d pad, joysticks and button need to be a bit bigger too.
