Carragher announces retirement plans - Liverpool icon to quit at end of the season

Jamie Carragher will bring the curtain down on his illustrious Liverpool career after revealing today he will retire from football at the end of this season.

The former England international, who has made 723 appearances for Liverpool since making his debut in January 1997, issued a statement today on Liverpool’s official website in a bid to end speculation about his future plans.

No shirts should be retired, I hate that. I'm sure a young lad would come in and take pride in wearing Carraghers number and work hard in living up to it.
