1 suck with draconian DRM always on line policies
2 suck with desperate PR statements and broken retracted promises
3 suck in stripping features after features
4 suck in 1st party western and Japanese exclusives
5 suck in worldwide consumer trust

Lol 4. It's really important Microsoft is not doing their fans any favors by continuously rehashing the same intellectual properties while not investing in new intellectual properties with their main Studios.

We don't need for Halos and for Gears of War or anything like that nothing stopping those two Studios from making a new intellectual property as well as continuing to work on existing.

Other than Microsoft fear of new things. They always have one foot in and one foot out there's always something with them in regards to new intellectual properties in which they always have these half measures either they don't own the team they don't own the intellectual property or they're not publishing or something it's extremely rare you have it but Microsoft has one of their main teams making a new intellectual property.

Something like sea of Thieves is extremely rare by Microsoft in the reality is it shouldn't be that should be a normal thing they do every single generation and continue to support those Concepts as opposed to only desperately reverting back to the same old established properties it tells me that they are OK with their safe space and don't feel comfortable venturing out to new and risky properties in my opinion I would like it if they failed a dozen times at least trying something new then succeeded a hundred times with the same crap.

I think it's awesome that we got a Killzone and infamous this generation I think it's cool we're getting a God of War but I could say that when we're getting days gone , Horizon zero Dawn and a Spider-Man game and knowing that it's confirmed that sucker punch is working on a new intellectual property.

So no Xbox Collective I'm not saying never release Halo or Never released Gears of War because Sony still has Killzone and they still have Infamous yet those same two Studios that created those two games are both confirmed to be making new intellectual properties , is there a reason why Microsoft can't do the same? They're not doing anyone any favors making the same crap thrown up over and over again nothing's wrong with making Halo but let the team make something different for God's sake so once in awhile at least support two different intellectual properties I would be completely fine if we only got 2 Halos a generation as well as 2 brand new property by that same developer at least give them some breathing room and bring some new consumers into your Market.

DarthJay2751d ago

Could you have picked a worse example than Gears Of War and Halo to ask if those studios can do something else? The Coalition just made their first ever Xbox game in Gears Of War 4. 343 Industries has only made two Halo games, with their third coming next year. You do understand that Bungie and Epic are, in fact, making something "different" now right?

DillyDilly2751d ago (Edited 2751d ago )

You can't blame Microsoft for sticking with certain franchises WHEN SONY DOES THE SAME DAMN THING. Lets see Sony go a whole generation with NOTHING BUT NEW IPS & NO PREQUELS OR SEQUELS OR SPIN OFFS I bet you neither would do that. You can't harp on Microsoft for something that Sony does as well

Rhythmattic2751d ago (Edited 2751d ago )

Croatia
You make some realistic points.... But to respond...

Naughty dog made more than just UC... TLOU for example... A totally new ip
So are Gorilla Games with the upcoming Horizon.
As for Insomniac, Resistance to R&K, to Sunset OD on the one...

I question with why 343 or the coalition had to do what was already done by different studios.
Don't get me wrong... Ill buy Geow when I upgrade my PC GPU, but I see what could of been new IP's, now a missed opportunity

trooper_2751d ago

Gee Crotaa, that's because for every sequel, there's a new IP.

Try harder.

_-EDMIX-_2751d ago (Edited 2751d ago )

@darth- they also cancelled a triple A first-person shooter that was a brand new intellectual property to essentially do an intellectual property that's been established so I would say they are a good example to bring up as they literally stopped production on something new to create something old , it's exactly what we're talking about.

@Cro- it's okay I understand you didn't read the remainder of the post it's not for you anyway if you understand what's being stated you also understand how irrelevant your post actually is where did I stayed never create those intellectual properties? In fact I'm the one that even brought up their existence on PlayStation 4 in the first place but what I stated was that those same teams are still making new intellectual properties that's actually the point I'm trying to make never once that I say don't make Halo or don't make gears in fact I say that several times that that's not the case the problem is the fact that those are only being created by those teams.

I'm not really sure how clear I need to make myself regarding that I don't really care but they continue to make Forza or Horizon because I understand those are static intellectual properties you're not really going to have a racing team always making something new and that's completely understandable.

_-EDMIX-_2751d ago

@therand- I don't understand? Do you guys seriously have a literacy issue? Nowhere in my post of my saying don't create those intellectual properties several times I even go 4th to State continue to create them what I'm saying is they can't be the sole thing that this company is creating with those teams.

You're desperately trying to make it in either or situation as if they either have to go all new or zero and that doesn't make any sense and that was actually never the point but you want it to be the point to make it sound as if it's an easy solution as if there's no winner or loser but that's not what's going on here but nice straw man attempt anyway.

The point was that Sony continues to create new intellectual properties with their main teams every single generation without skipping a beat or Microsoft always has a specific number of teams essentially exclusively working on the same intellectual properties every single generation.

For god sakes the team that's making Gears of War canceled and new Triple-A intellectual property simply to work on an established on their team is even named after something from Gears of War just to give you any indication that they're kind of permanently want them just working on that.

This is not trying to downplay or make Xbox look dumb if you love Xbox you should be wanting new properties just as much you're not getting any favors by Microsoft not making new intellectual properties with their core teams.

Nobody stated it had to be this either or or this all or nothing other than you like I stated in my original post which it's starting to sound like you never actually read Sony how to killzone and Infamous this generation the same teams are making new intellectual properties is there a reason why Microsoft cannot do the same?

Please stop trying to have this weird defensive thing where you're trying to fight everything being stated because I can't really see in what world that this is hurting you in fact what I'm suggesting is trying to help you, 343 having 2 Halos along with 2 intellectual properties helps you, collation having two Gears of War as well as to intellectual properties but they always work on helps you as well.

How is that bad?

Nothing's wrong with having Killzone nothing's wrong with having Infamous nothing's wrong with having Uncharted but that's nothing to most PlayStation consumers when they know they're also getting Horizon zero Dawn, days gone, naughty dog's other team is confirmed to be making a new intellectual property as well as Sucker Punch that's actually the point that I'm trying to bring up that you guys look like you're desperate to avoid discussing like the plague.

Petebloodyonion2751d ago

Main article suck and show the author insecurity or trying to cash on others insecurities.

As for your replies funny that MS aren't trying new ip when others articles on this sites are bashing MS NEW Ip

Recore?
Sunset Overdrive?
Quantum Break?
Ori and blind forest?
Project Spark?

So yeah they are trying new stuff just like Sony do!

mkis0072751d ago

Darth Jay

And look what they had to do in order to get to that point; Bungie had to buy its way out of being a first party Microsoft studio. Epic sold its rights to Gears of War. Bungie now has a choice.

I think #5 is very important as well Playstation has gained a following over the years that is unmatched Consumers seem to care about them and trust them Microsoft does not have this In many folks eyes Microsoft is Evil. I do know there is a reason why Sony has been winning They gravitate toward the gamer more than Microsoft does. They have better Exclusives They don't rehash the same boring titles year after year.

2751d ago
buttcheeks2751d ago

@ crotaaa and even tho they made all those gran tourismo games they still created new racing IP in mstorm and drive club .Even though they made so many ratchet games they still created LBP do you get what I'm saying yes Sony has franchises that have alot of entries but they have never been afraid to try new IP They have also let many popular IP go in favor of creating something new

343_Guilty_Spark2751d ago

1. You don't need to be online.
2. What broken promises? Over 300 BC games, hdr, uhd bluray, monthly updates, more power coming next fall in Scorpio
3. Yet they add feature after feature such as let's find a gamer, and Xbox Arenas
4. Japanese games are few but the ones from major studios like FF15 are coming
5. Where are your sources?

2751d ago
343_Guilty_Spark2751d ago

@All_Might_Ultra

And you need to stop worshipping plastic boxes...that goes for fanchilds of any group.. MICROSOFT SONY OR NINTENDO. Just be a gamer.

trooper_2751d ago

1. Yes you do
2. BC is niche. Where are the new IPs?
3. What does that have to do with games and diversity?
4. Which is multiplat. Does XB1 have Persona5? No.
5. Go look them up yourself.

Liqu1d2751d ago

Lol, 343 telling others to stop worshipping plastic boxes.

Nathan_Hale532751d ago

Your bias is so obvious, 343_Guilty_Spark as a name. Lol. You are obviously a Xbox worshiper.

LamerTamer2751d ago (Edited 2751d ago )

You NEED to be online some of the time with xbone. You can't update the OS and therefore can't play new games unless you go online to update.

Sony is kind enough to include required OS updates on the game disc that requires them. You can be totally offline at all times with PS4 and still use it, with xbox, no.

nitus102751d ago

@343_Guilty_Spark

For your No 1 point: The XB1 was supposed to be always online, then online every 24 hours then not online only when Microsoft realised that gamers did not like this and voted with their wallet.

For your No 2 point:
a) BC is a great value added feature and will sell consoles but only at the start of the consoles release not two years down the time track. This has been proven with PS4 sales being almost twice as many as those of the XB1.
b) HDR - All PS4's have HDR. Only the XB1s has HDR.
c) UHD-Bluray - What has this to do with games? All PlayStation disk players are used to play or install games.
d) Updates are there to fix things. Having them monthly or every few months is irrelevant.
e) Ah yes! the Scorpio. Well enjoy your one year wait.

For your No 3 point: I suppose that's fine if it is important to you.

For your No 4 point: There are quite a few Japanese games being developed and some are even multiplatform.

For your No 5 point: I usually use Google or "DuckDuckGo" but I won't hold it against you if you use Bing.

I don't just understand the need for these sort of articles. If you like a Xbox play it and if you play ps4 than play the games not it

I need of the day we are gamers man all this has to stop

We can't keep this up and be divided and have publishers take advantage of us

Deadpooled2751d ago (Edited 2751d ago )

All of them are garbage, nowadays I resort to looking up online on many sources of topics (eg the US Election) to see the differing arguments and make my own viewpoint. The rise of social media (and exposing the BS easily) is now helping people make their own minds up and not just resorting to whichever paper one wants to stick with. The Guardian (may be referred to in parts as the 'Grauniad') regularly leaves out important information to stories to leverage their neo-liberal opinions, the Sun are full of sensationalist BS (eg the kind of sensationalism Kotaku uses but much worse), the Times and Independent do the same as the Guardian and are liberal but nowhere near as bad as the Grauniad (the Independent tried to make a cheaper newspaper that tried to get both left and right wing viewpoints in but the paper quickly failed, largely due to it not being free like the Metro), the Mirror are poor and at times are trying to be like the News of the World (which got done over by courts for phone tampering and other illegal methods to get sensationalist news stories and has since been shut down), and the Metro (although being free on UK buses) used to be fair but in recent years has resorted to sensationalism to get bus travelers to pick up their papers. The Telegraph is typical pro Tory (Conservatives) right wing but does deviate depending on what is being backed by the Conservatives (eg left wing refugee propaganda and joining in parts with the left wing papers in hiding what *really* goes on at Calais, unless forced to mention it after being made common by other sources (social media etc)), the daily... whatever they call themselves I don't bother with, and the Daily Mail (no explanation needed).

Im sorry but does the author not know you can use voice commands on ps4? And sorry but the uthor also said ms is taking risks with its exclusives.... Since when are sequals, one of which was stated to that the devs played it safe... Taking risks?

ThanatosDMC2751d ago

Author lives in a Xbox bubble. Sony apparently touched him in a bad way and didnt call him back.

TankCrossing2751d ago (Edited 2751d ago )

They have taken quite a few risks. Zoo Tycoon, Ryse, Scream ride, Quantum Break, Ori, Crimson Dragon, Recore, Sunset Overdrive all off the top of my head. They all pretty much flopped, which cements the fact that they were risky investments.

Unfortunately for MS, Gears 4 and Forza Horizon 3 don't wipe that slate clean.

As for the article, I haven't read it but it sounds like uninformed trash. Certainly stirred up the hive though.

showtimefolks2751d ago

Tank

But it's not on ms, it's on Xbox gamers who don't buy these other titles

Xbox and Nintendo fans are the same. They will buy the same 3-5 exclusives over and over while passing on other great sometimes good games

Sunset overdrive is a great game yet sales didn't make any impact

Halo
Gears
Forza

If ms were to put the same effort into other games and invest same money for advertisement than they will be the same. But ms will keep depending on same games over and over

Forza doesn't even sell much

TankCrossing2751d ago

I wasn't really pointing fingers or blaming anyone. Just challenging the rhetoric that they don't take risks with some clear examples to show that they do, and that they haven't particularly paid off. Those titles run the gamut from cheap and cheerful to high budget. Sea of Theives and Scalebound are still in the pipeline too, and success is far from certain for those.

Agreed on Sunset Overdrive, it was good fun and definitely the outstanding title on that list imo. I can't wait to see what Insomniac pull of with Spider-man.

_-EDMIX-_2751d ago

How substantial are these risk? How many of those did you mention that they actually own the intellectual property to? How many of those did they even on the team to? I don't know find those Ventures "risk" considering the majority of them have been half measures this is what I'm talking about, when I say this company does not take risk, it's always one foot in and one foot out.

I don't know if I would to find many of those risk, I would say Quantum break being the biggest considering the cost but even with that they don't own the main Team to.

The fact that a team like Bungie left them is telling , could you imagine if Microsoft allowed them to create Destiny? They would have had Destiny and Halo but in my opinion that's how it's supposed to be, let your teams move on and create different properties this only helps you, instead Microsoft scared of taking such a risk now Activision now has this ridiculously popular franchise.

No risk ' no reward and I believe Microsoft is completely stupid to ignore one of the best teams in first-person shooting when it's clear they want to create something do if Sony was like Microsoft for all we know Horizon zero Dawn could have been an Electronic Arts game.

TankCrossing2751d ago (Edited 2751d ago )

I don't know the budgets for those titles Edmix. How much more money should they have invested into Screamride or Recore to make them more successful? How many new IPs this gen have a budget comparible to Quantum Break?

Your own example of how Microsoft should take a risk is that they could have got Bungie to make a sci-fi FPS? Really?

No Man's Sky Is Easily One Of Gaming's Greatest Comeback Stories

Despite No Man Sky's rocky launch, Hello Games managed to turn it into one of the best space exploration RPGs out there.

-Foxtrot15h ago

I hate the whole concept of "comeback story" because at the end of the day it doesn't remove the core issue we had in the first place, that we were lied to, it was disappointing and it launched with bare content to what was promised for years.

Any bad game can have a comeback story if it's supported enough after launch but for me if you launch in a terrible state then you had your chance. I can applaud you for what you've done after but at the end of the day there's not much of a choice since most gamers would blank your next product if you ditched your last game so fast, it's not about repairing the game but spending your time repairing gamers trust before you launch your next product otherwise it would be dead on arrival.

With these stories and the games being updated, the only way is up most of the time so of course it's going to improve the game and feel better over all, getting better and better as time passes. No Mans Sky, Sea of Thieves, Fallout 76 etc but then you have games like Anthem, Suicide Squad, Redfall and The Avengers where the devs just clearly moved on, now if they have another product people won't be as exited for it, I mean hell Guardians of the Galaxy was a great game but because of the Avengers it didn't help its sales since people were obviously still sour at that point.

I still think despite the improvements to games like No Mans Sky and Cyberpunk along with being better now overall the games are still not up there to what was promised and hyped as for years.

If we keep celebrating these “comeback stories” then unfortunately it only strongly supports the concept that these studios / publishers can continue to push half arsed broken products out for the sake of quick sales instead of waiting until they are fully finished. We need to condemn this awful behaviour or sadly we lose all voice and power as consumers.

Sonic188113h ago(Edited 13h ago)

I feel the same way about Cyberpunk 2077. I'm glad you mentioned that. I'm not a fan of comeback stories as well. But No man sky developer was a small indie team compared to CDPR. It's worse when it's coming from a AAA developer

Nacho_Z13h ago

"Any bad game can have a comeback story if it's supported enough after launch"

You make it sound so simple and easy. It's not. After release Hello Games poured countless hours into getting their game closer to what they originally wanted, without charging a penny to anyone. That's not normal.

The reason NMS and HG are held in such high esteem and calling them liars is a weak stance is the amount of work they've put into it, for free. They're not chasing a quick buck, they've dedicated their lives over the last few years to giving their fans the game everyone wanted.

-Foxtrot12h ago(Edited 12h ago)

They are liars though...

We are not revising history here, I'm sorry but we're not

They built this game up for years and they launched it knowing full well it wasn't up to scratch to what they originally showed off or hyped it up to be.

"They're not chasing a quick buck, they've dedicated their lives over the last few years to giving their fans the game everyone wanted"

And like I said above most of that comes from the fact that if they had just moved on straight away nobody would have supported their next game. They've washed most of that sour taste away after supporting No Mans Sky so now they are doing a new game which more people feel like they can support and get excited for.

Anyway how can you say "You make it sound so simple and easy. It's not" and then make the point that "Hello Games poured countless hours into getting their game closer to what they originally wanted, without charging a penny to anyone"

This means that if a small team like this can turn a game around then big AAA games like Suicide Squad, Redfall, Anthem and the like should have been able to do it no problem, oh but that's right they didn't want to put the time or effort into it. They can do it but some people just decide not to.

Blad3runner0045m ago(Edited 44m ago)

"You make it sound so simple and easy. It's not. After release Hello Games poured countless hours into getting their game closer to what they originally wanted, without charging a penny to anyone. That's not normal."

People paid for the game at launch and got lied to. Now the game is what it SHOULD have been from the start (what people paid for) and we should be happy they aren't charging EXTRA? Its free because people ALREADY paid for the game at launch.

People PAID for what the game is in its current state (what it should have been at launch), not what it was when it released. Charging people AGAIN would result in even more backlash.

anast12m ago

"You make it sound so simple and easy. It's not. After release Hello Games poured countless hours into getting their game closer to what they originally wanted, without charging a penny to anyone. That's not normal."

They already charged for the full price game. All of that work is owed because it was already paid for.

milohighclub3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Whatever happened at launch is in the past. By your logic they could have supported it for a year got it to the project they promised then stopped but they didn't. They're still supporting it to this they, they've released more content post than pretty much any game I can think off. More than most MMOs. They didn't have to go this far but they have and don't have any plans of stopping. All for free too.
Yeah they had a shit launch and they've apologised, learned and more than made up for it. I was pissed off at them at launch, but not petty enough to keep slandering them 7 years later.
You have much bigger studios releasing half assed games and fixing it later or even worse not even bothering.

TheCaptainKuchiki2h ago

And it doesn't change the fact that the game is a boring procedurally generated environment in which your repeat the same actions over and over again with no real purpose. I hate when they say that the game became good.

thorstein14h ago

I really enjoyed it at launch and had every trophy by August 2016.

The experience I had is no longer in the game: It was just me and my ship. It was a survival game and the feeling of loneliness in the universe was pervasive. There was no way to ruin too far from your ship and, in an emergency, you grenaded a hole in the ground to survive.

I miss that aspect, but since then, I love what they've done.

Hugodastrevas12h ago

I'd say it's THE definitive comeback story
