Being exclusive wasn't the reason street fighter failed. Anyone with a working brain can pin point the main reason that game didn't do well. Don't also forget the different genres that they both belong in. Monster Hunter can be a huge hit if they handle it like horizon.

I never said that it was. However does that particularly matter? After taking one of their best selling franchises, signing an exclusivity deal, and half assing it on that console leading to poor sales . . . Why would they take their best selling franchise and spend more money developing it and advertising it? How do you think that would go down with investors? Especially when, as you would see in the rest of my post, it would have to sell even better than it's already selling to be a success. If they launched another Monster Hunter, like XX, on PS4 and it did incredibly well, I can see some merit to the rumors, at it stands it'd be an incredibly risky move for a company that's been teeter tottering near the edge for a while now.

Portable Monster Hunter games have always been more popular especially in Japan. I'm not saying it has to be exclusively portable but it doesn't make much sense to make it exclusively for a console.

What he said, its most popular in Japan where portable consoles are very very popular. If Sony announced a PSP3 then that would have a better chance. As it stands, this is a rumour with no weight what so ever.

It's most popular in JP, but sales for Monster Hunter have been on decline in JP as well, on portable. I don't think it'll find the audience they intend on finding with the PS4 in the west, but who knows with how popular the PS4 is, and JP support has been at an all time high this gen, so maybe it'll pick it.

It's completely up in the air and they're taking a chance, but worse case scenario they downscale it and ported to Switch later on. Best case it sells around 4m units globally a bit over half from JP.

Who on this earth would want to play a ported 3DS version on his PS4? Capcom better make it a proper console release or I couldn't care less about it.

Might be reasonable. If the long, long running desire at Capcom to make MH as big in the West as back home then PS4 is a great place to put MH5. Theres absolutely no reason they cannot then port it to Switch or develop alongside the PS4 game.

The install base worldwide plus rumoured westernisation of the series wouldnt make PS a massive risk for Capcom at all. SF5 was a mess but that was Capcom's doing, not Sony's, and would have little bearing on MH5.

If Sony want to pay for exclusivity(timed or otherwise)that might sweeten it for Capcom and make sense to Sony as a Japan based seller as well. Thing is, we dont know, but to sell big in the rest of the World Capcoms best current bet is releasing it on PS4 in some form.

All I'm saying is that calling it a return home doesn't particularly mean anything. Franchises move around all the time for all sorts of different reasons. Unless it's something like franchises and studios being sold off (like Crash being sold, Rare, etc . . .) then it's not really much a return home. After the whole Andromeda fiasco, I doubt anyone particularly cares, but Mass Effect becoming a Xbox exclusive could be called a 'return home'. It's a dumb sentiment no matter which platform the game is becoming exclusive to.

Yes, by their logic, that'd be the case. But given the circumstances at the time they moved to other consoles it's not really the same situation. Nintendo was struggling during the PS1 days, and PS1 was pretty dominant.

I will say that Metal Gear though may be a stretch, as MGS is actually kind of a different series, and it did start on the PS1.

Anyhow, moving back to Nintendo consoles would have to have Nintendo consoles be powerful enough to run them, with a user base significant enough to support their development. Nintendo had success with one home console in the past 4 generations, and it was the Wii which was woefully underpowered for most of those games. If they had decent enough power, they didn't have a user base. Portables weren't really sufficient to run them either....with the Switch being the first that likely could run them at a decent level based on their current design levels.

But after all these years, I'm not sure it matters that much. Kind of like how I think this whole back and forth about who had it first doesn't matter much. There is a fan base on Nintendo consoles. There are going to be some on Sony consoles still. I think getting the game to as many fans as possible would be better, but Capcom will make the decision, and with the shift in new console hardware, it's hard to say where the fan base would be based on the current design level of MH5.

@10th- I don't think Monster Hunter series will be exclusive to PS4, simply MH5.

Capcom has made side games before, they will likely make those MHX games on Switch and MH6 and 7 etc on PS or even XB.

If they have a plan for a MH to max out PS4, why should they not act?

They can still make a MH on Switch bud, that game can be ported to PS4, but PS4's MH likely can't be ported to Switch as the fans and even Capcom might not want to downgrade for a lessor platform and likely just make 2 different series.

It would not be the first time they've split a series.

Different times. Those series left Nintendo for the same reasons LOTS of series left those platforms, either weak or failed to sell a lot.

This isn't happening out of spite or JUST because it started on PS, its happening for the same reason MGSIV and MGSV, RE5 and 6, FFX,FFXII, FFXIII, FFXV (might as well just say everything after FFVII) etc stopped coming to Nintendo platforms.

This isn't just coming to PS4 JUST based on "origins" its coming to PS based on likely large sales and they might want to establish that base again. They can do that and STILL make a Switch version bud.

This isn't an either or and seriously stop trying to turn everything in to that. It seems anyone happy about this rumor is instantly an enemy to you.

I think Capcom should split it. Make MH5,6,7 on PS systems, make MHX titles on Switch ie Nintendo handhelds.

Capcom makes money on both, you get a MH game, PS gamers get a current gen version of MH not held back by weaker hardware etc.

Everyone wins. I mean...you are crying over a rumor of PS4 getting a MH game and its CONFIRMED Switch is getting one.

My point is that, as you say, it doesn't matter all that much. People would herald games 'going back to their origins' for one series, but not for another. I'd find it just as dumb if a Nintendo gamer was glad that Final Fantasy was becoming exclusive and 'going back to its origins'.

Games move around all the time due to circumstantial stuff, I totally agree there. If you read elsewhere i point out how it makes little sense for them to make it a PS4 exclusive considering the state of gaming in Japan right now. Monster Hunter 4 sold three and a half million on 3DS in Japan alone. To sell that well in Japan on PS4 it'd have to have a 70% attach rate there. It'd also cost more to develop. At best I can see timed exclusivity. It's just too risky a move for Capcom at this point.

Why even reply if you can't understand it? My point is exactly what other people replying are pointing out: It doesn't matter. Franchises move around all the time. There's no reason to try and say that it's "natural" (which is what MrSega said) for it to become a PS4 exclusive. Games don't become exclusive to a certain platform because they were born there. otherwise the franchises I listed (other than RE) would all become Nintendo exclusives, which would be idiotic. I own a Nintendo console and I'd think that was stupid.

Elsewhere in this comment section, you will see I point out that the circumstances nowadays imply the games should stay on 3DS. The game would have to have a 70% attach rate on PS4 in Japan to match the Japanese sales of Monster Hunter 4. Heck, there's even more 3DS's out there worldwide. On top of that it costs far less to develop. There's also less competition.

And I'm not crying about it. Funny you rail about other people supposedly making assumptions when you're one of the worst people here in regards to that. I don't even own a 3DS, I'm not planning on buying one, and I'm saying that the 3DS is still the most logical choice for Capcom to continue the Monster Hunter franchise on.
