Drats. We'd really expected Germany to go on a goal spree against Ghana. Really a pity that they didn't. Hell, even a victory by Ghana would have been good enough for us.
That the Australian team not only held the Ghana team back for the majority of the game while a man down, while also getting more serious chances at goal during the later stages of the game, really does speak for their superior experience. The scoreline was justified (even if Kewell didn't get sent off, it was still a penalty to them), but I think it would've been a very different game if that card hadn't been given out....or if the yellow on that tackle from behind not so long af...
The ref here made several dubious decisions through the whole game. I can see why this one might have had to happen, if he's applying the letter of the law more than the spirit. However if he's taking that approach, the tackle from behind by that Ghana player not so long after this deserved a red card itself.
Given the potential for collusion that was in this game, I'm not surprised it was boring. Both teams knew they were advancing once Australia went into a winning position against Serbia, and they had no desire or reason to break their deadlock because of that.
