Diego Maradona: F
Go home, you handball scoring, drug-using, diva! See you, never, Maradona!
That truly was Ghana snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Tough break for Africa.
So, I'm pulling for Ghana, and I'm rooting against Argentina and Netherlands.
I'd be for Spain getting it, too.
Seriously. Every time a Brazilian player got a touch, there was immediately a shove. To the Netherlands' credit, Brazil did collapse like a house of cards after the Dutch got the equalizer, but I can't root for a team that is going to resort to thuggery and bringing a "whatever I can get away with" mentality to the game.
Brazil really lost their composure after letting in that first goal.
That being said, Netherlands were really playing a style of football I don't like. At some point the word "physical" replaced "cheating" in sports vernacular. Every time a Brazilian player would get a service there would be some Dutch Shovin', and either a stumble, a trip, or a dispossession would be the result. I can't root for that style of football, and so, Netherlands, you...
Mick Jagger seems to be an albatross for any team he's rooting for this Cup.
This is the testiest match-up yet. Can't wait to see Maradona get slapped down like the diva he is. I don't want Germany to win the Cup, but I'll gladly root for them to see off Argentina.
I didn't see it at first, but I have now. That was offsides, it should have been called.
This was a dumb match where both teams were afraid to make a mistake, decided by someone making a mistake.
Okada was an absolute moron to send Komano up there to shoot third. He's a defender who's scored 0 goals in his 54 appearances for Japan. Marcus Tulio Tanaka, the defender who was arguably Man of the Match, has scored 4 goals in his last 15 international appearances. Why you would put the worst player on the pitch, one who had obviously dead legs, to take your *3...
Who didn't know this? He dove on the ball, and he knew it was in.
Robinho's in one, and he scored yesterday.

To his credit, after all the heat they're been taking, Blatter said they'd be foolish to not consider something to remove the goal-line mistakes.
They also admitted that both calls were blown.

Germany will beat Argentina, and send Maradona into exile.
Dunno after that, though.
This news, in addition to the announcement that FIFA was upset, not at the fact that an obvious call was missed, but that THEY SHOWED REPLAYS of the missed call, shows to me that FIFA clearly has its head up its own ass.

The boys over at FIFA are enamored with their own mystique now, and need ...
Change your mind before we change sports, you pompous ass.
Those were all pretty awful headlines. The pictures were pretty frightening.
I didn't expect them to make the semis, but I did expect them to make the quarters.
There's a lot of disappointment they should be carrying from this Cup.
The problem is that England's top players get no experience elsewhere these days. Everyone's real familiar with them, and yet, every other nation brings in players that are a bit of a surprise to their opposition. England have no trumps, you know how to beat them, and they get beaten.
Honda was definitely the star for Japan. But, you put him in Europe, and everyone's going to know him the next time the Cup rolls around. Will he still be able to take over a game once a defense is keyed to him?
