After the abject showing of Premier League teams in Europe, expect no better from the national side with English participation in top-flight matches at an all-time low
"Spain, the reigning world and European champions, for example, were able to leave Fernando Torres, the most expensive footballer in the history of English football, Juan Mata, Manchester United's record signing, and £26 million Spurs striker Roberto Soldado out of their squad ahead of their midweek friendly against Italy." - that info pretty much sums up the Premier League.
Really?.. wow, anyone who thinks Spain is going to win the World Cup (let's be honest, they were lucky in 2010) this summer is delusional.
Spain will be knocked out at the Quarter final stage.
As for the Spanish league, I watch it on Bein Sports, sorry, like MLS, it's one of the slowest and boring leagues you'll ever watch.. Hope you like Barcelona or Real Madrid, cause it's all they ever show or talk about from that league.
At least the EPL, Serie A, Ligue 1, Bundesliga have variety.
If you read any of my comments around here regarding the PL, you would know I consider it the best based on how competitive and exciting it is. Other leagues are more boring, but they do have better teams than the PL. And Spain are favourites for the World Cup. No reason they shouldn't be.
Spain are still very much considered contenders and for a very good reason, they have quality throughout their squad. They also have the added advantage of being one of the few major European teams where the players will be used to the heat.
Personally I think Brazil will win it but to rule Spain out is pretty silly.
Suarez, Ozil, Hazard, Kompany, Verrtonghen to name but a few sure fire picks. Ozil will have to step up his game though, he'll likely be picked on reputation.
That says nothing about the Premier League. What it does say is that those players haven't been playing well enough to warrant selection. If Torres was banging in 20+ goals and didn't get selected then you might begin to start to have a point. As it stands, zilch, nada, nothing!
Prem is with out a doubt the best league in the world, but it is also a double edged sword, to be the best league in the world, it has to attract the best players in the world, handful of them are good, majority of them poor. There is no room for the english players to flourish, hence why England is suffering. Sorry England, you are going out in the group stages.
I think England will get through, weirdly confident about our chances for once!
Regarding this debate. There is one main reason why our top teams are starting to suffer in terms of quality compared to other leagues and that is because we have too many top teams now with money to compete (Man Utd, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, hell even Southampton, Sunderland, Stoke spend lots)whereas Bayern can pretty much buy any player from the German league with no resistance (Dortmund have flopped horrendously this season and it's only downhill from here, just like Montpellier from the French league) Madrid are bankrolled by the government, Barca along with Madrid take like 90% of the revenue so they can buy anyone too. Basically what I'm saying is that the fact that the premier league distributes it's wealth properly more teams can buy players e.g Liverpool wanted Ramirez he went to southampton, they wanted Salah he went to Chelsea, Utd wanted Hazard he went to Chelsea, Spurs wanted Willian he went to Chelsea, Utd took Rvp and Mata, Utd wanted Baines but Everton wouldn't sell, Utd wanted Bale but Madrid had more money. English football will be back on top within 5 years, look at the viewing figures, nobody watches any La liga match apart from when Barca or Madrid are involved (props to Athletico this season though)
The main point is though, nobody ever said the english league was the best in terms of quality anyway! I know most people don't watch the German league but it is absolute dross, look at how the worst Utd side beat Leverkusen 5 nil who are second. Barring Bayern and Dortmund that league is so bad in terms of quality, that I stopped watching the highlights for it. Do not get it twisted, English league isn't the best in terms of quality but it is second after Spain Spain England Germany
In terms of organisation and brand England Germany Spain
Te problem with Premier League is that it's hard to attract the young up and coming footballers. PL rules is tougher, you need more body strength then other countries.
I would rather enjoy an exciting domestic league year after year than have England national team be successful, that's not because I'm unpatriotic because frankly having the best league in the world (by far) is much better for our country than winning Mickey Mouse cups.
The World Cup is just a footballing circus, the Premier League is serious football.

I agree what Roy Keane said about the 'BPL Best League in the World' debate..
'The BPL is the best Brand of Football'
I find when a PL team plays barca, madrid. They try like them.
I think if PL Teams played at the pace of the english game, they would have alot more success.
