The Euro 2012 finals in Poland and Ukraine will give a number of up-and-coming young players the opportunity to shine as they help their countries compete to be European champions. Here are five players to watch out for during this summer’s tournament.
1. Christian Eriksen, Denmark
At only 20 years of age, Denmark’s Christian Eriksen has already accumulated an impressive career history. The youngest player to participate in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Eriksen has made 100 appearances for his club team, the Dutch Eredivisie champions Ajax Amsterdam. With 16 senior club goals and 2 international goals to his credit, Eriksen is building a solid reputation as a skilful playmaker. This talented midfielder could propel the Danish underdogs to the top of Group B
2. Mario Goetze, Germany
Recently returned from injury, 19-year-old Mario Goetze is one of Borussia Dortmund’s most exciting young stars. The German international scored 2 goals for his country during 2011, including a goal against Austria during Euro 2012 qualifying. He has also notched up an impressive tally of 14 goals in the Bundesliga during his 3 years with Borussia Dortmund.
